Hi folks.
Re my 944 (2.5 D reg). Well, I have sold it to a chap in work but said I would follow up a problem with the clutch.

Sometimes (very rarely when I drove it) the clutch pedal would go to the floor, but a pull would bring it springing healthily back to correct position. The clutch doesn't slip, the plate is ok.

Previously I took the master and slave cylinder off, dave and I stripped them, checked them over and reassembled them. They were fine.

The fluid level doesn't drop at all in the reservoir.

:scratchchin: Anyone know why it is doing this...our thoughts are that it needs a new spring on the pedal.
It seems purely mechanical as it hits the floor but springs back with some aplomb when the pedal is pulled back......

Would be interested if anyone has had the same problem arise.

Thanks in advance,
Mike.

Ive heard of the same sort of problem where a 944 had been jacked up using a trolly jack directly under the pedals and bent the floor pan, it caused the pedal to stick down sometimes. Quick bash with a hammer sorted it.

Cheers Speedy, although I think I will buy another master cylinder and see what happens. Weird, very weird.

Had the same problem with my Rover. It`s caused by either the piston sticking in the master cylinder or a weak spring behind the piston. A new master cylinder will cure it.

Although I wouldn't hesitate to have another 944. I sold mine to a chap in work. I trust your 944 is still doing well.

with the pedal on the floor, does the clutch still operate, or is it just the pedal end flapping about, and not affecting the business end ?

Rich,
It's all sorted now. The pedal would occasionally stick half way or on the floor. This would be resolved by a toe pulling it back up. It happened very rarely so didn't bother me at all.

Still, for £45 a new master was bought, along with that I cleaned out the reservoir which had some sludge in it, and replaced the pipes.

Lovely smooth action now. Unlike the owner.
