Hi all,

I'm looking for any advice, which would be greatly appreciated, to help my GT2 feel a little loving :)

Stuck up in Scotland I dont get the chance to visit suppliers/tuners much, so any recommendations on where to get good service for the following bits would be great.

Loking for

BBS magnesium alloys
GT3 cloth seats
Pirelli Rosso Corsa tyres (or any other recommendations)
380mm brake upgrade
Race cat and exhaust (would like to ensure it wont fail any trackday noise regs though)

Should clean me out for a while!
Thanks for any help

Hi Dave,

Nice wheels!!

I think the cheapest way to get BBS mags is directly from BBS through their website. Having said that, I e-mailed them last week and I still haven't heard anything back from them. Carnewal sell them as well:

www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm

....for 3500 Euros per set.

How come you want GT3 seats in your 993 GT2? Do you like the size/comfort of the GT3 seat? I have the same seats as a 993 GT2 in my 993 RS and I love them. Mine are the Nomex (ie not leather) kind.

I have Corsas on at the moment. I got them fitted at the last Porsche Club track day I went to. Protyre motorsport were there, tel 01782 791739. I paid £825 for the set including VAT and fitting which aint exactly cheap but it was very convenient as it was at track side.

Vic Cohen on this board (and I think 993rsr aka John Chester) use Dunlop Supersport Race tyres which are nearly half the price of the Pirellis or Michelins and they really like them. Good in the wet too and fine on track days. I used to have them on my RS and I would say the Corsa is only slightly more grippy than the Dunlop SSR.

Haven't a clue about the race cats/exhaust/brakes....but the 993 GT2 owners should be along soon to help.

Hi nice to hear you have a great car,rhd or lhd and colour?
BBS wheels direct from bbs motorsport.

Cats and exhaust will not make any difference to power, for noise, just put the fabspeed tail pipes on, they fit straight on to the cats, and remove rear silencers, great sound, and a lighter rear end! Three of us are running these tail pipes, and all pass the 105db noise, not so good on quite days eh JC!
380mm discs are very expensive, you need larger callipers as well as discs,ap do a good conversion with 6pot callipers.
Front discs will set you back about 230+vat each, also ideally need to upgrade rears as well to keep the balance, or fit a brake bias adjuster.
Standard discs are pretty good, you can fit floating fronts like on the 993 cup and turbo2.

Thanks Johnny,

I'll email BBS direct too, hopefully they will respond quickly.

On the seats I made the mistake of ordering the car with Sports Seats with leather when it was new, talk about slidey with no side support! I replaced them a while ago with some Momo's, but would like to get some genuine seats back in. Never thought about the clubsport GT2 seats, probably because I have never seen them. I'll check them out too.

I'll check out the Dunlops too.

Thanks,
Dave

Wow, you have owned the car from new. Not many people can say that. Fantastic.

I don't really know where to pick up the seats from, but you could get Recaro Pole Position race seats in Nomex. These suit the 993 GT2 better than GT3 seats in my opinion. They look more "period". There are some on the Carnewal site, but lots of people stock them. I think Russell Grice has these in his silver 993 GT2 although I may be wrong. You gotta dig the huge white "RECARO" letters on the head rest. Very nice.

If you haven't already got one, I would order the Cup steering wheel from Carnewal's site. JC has one in his 993 GT2. The Porsche stamp on the spoke looks very cool. As does the yellow stripe at top dead centre. It comes with the Porsche horn badge as well and gives the car that race car look inside!! Would go great with fire proof Recaros.

I have just been informed that the supply of Dunlop SSRs is drying up as we speak. They may not make any more. I'd probably look at Corsas if I was you, even though they are more dosh. You will have less bother when it comes to replacing the rears when your fronts are still OK......and I'm sure this will happen!

I am sure i met you at silverstone track day when i just got delivery of my gt2.My car was still on its NZ number plates 911gt.
You can get the clubsport steering wheels from parr i believe at a good price, with porsche on the spoke.

there are a pair of spg seats for sale as new on the pcgb web site, members for sale section.

Fabspeed will deal direct from the states, with a credit card.Another plus point of these tail pipes,is it removes all the heat from the silencers under the rear wings,by not using the silencers.I know i could fry a egg on my rear wings,on a hot track day.

John or russell will come along soon with some feedback on tyres, john has been running corsas and russell i think is on mich cups. They have just recently been to spa and the ring, and are known to drive gently around these fantastic circuits!
Also vic has a gt2 with plenty of grunt, not sure what tyres he runs though.

Wow, that was a few years ago Remember it well, what's the chances of two GT2's both with the same registration. Always wondered what would have happened if you were snapped at 150, and it dropped through my door, trying to explain that one to the BIB's!

Thanks for the feedback, will go look at the PCGB site now.

I've emailed Parr's about the brembo floating discs, seems to be rated a highly rated setup. Asked them about the BBS wheels also.

Going to go for the Corsa's, for ease of availability and replacement.

Can't find the Fabspeeds in the UK so will order them from the US. Carnewal seem to list a German equivalent now.

No Brembo discs for the GT2 - I've asked Parr. Only option is to buy the disc, and between Russell and I we can get some bells machined. Then just need to work out if the calipers need replacing to the 6 pot 996 ones.

Recaro SPG best option, GT3 seats to big for the cabing and too big overall - unless you are wide of hip!
BBS wheels - as Johnny and Burzel said order from Hr Armbruster @ BBS direct. Mail me at j.chester@redbourn.com and I'll send you his e-mail address.

Fabspeed bypass are top notch, great sound and no silencer to stop the engine/turbos cooling plus weight saving.

Tyres - Overall Dunlop SSR's half the price of Corsas or cups and 90% of the dry grip. Russell and I have just come back from a trip to the 'ring with Manthey on them and even pixxing down with rain on the way back were fine. Corsas dont work well on the GT2 - without lateral grooves the car wanders a lot.

Look forward to some pic's of the car!

Thanks for the heads up. Shame about the discs, I've been through few, as Knockhill up here is heavy on the brakes, and they tend to warp quite easily.

email on the way to you for the BBS wheels

Getting the old wheels refurbished sounds like a hot topic just now, always has that problem with Speedlines.

Fabspeed ordered. How do these do for noise regs at the circuits? Spoiled up here with no noise regs

Noise regs - I've only had a problem at Donnington when I gave it too much beef under the gantry. Bedford would be a non-starter.

Most places I don't think you will have a problem, especially if you are running standard cats.

As for Brakes, you can run the Porsche floating front disc with separate mounting bell. I've mailed you the sp on it and will look up part numbers tomorrow for you. Around £100 +VAT per piece.

I should have given it mach 10 back home from silverstone, the police would never have believed you!!
Good to hear you still have it.
The front discs that john is suggesting are good discs, and tend not to warp,as they are a floating disc, but do not rattle.
Put it this way a standard rs/gt2 front discs i would go through a set,in one good day at donnington. The floating ones i would get through 2 sets of fronts in a average season with rs19 pads.

John i have some ap 380mm discs on loan to try, from a gt3rsr fitment, they fit on the hub with the correct offset etc.But they are 35mm thick instead of 32mm porsche,i will have to either modify the big big reds or put some 6 pot ap calipers on.These discs are solid with light grooves, worth working on,as 35 mm equals more metal, less heat.I have some bells that you can copy if needed. There is also a large supply of these discs available, all spares from a endurance race team attempt at leman etc
The problem with these big four pots is uneven pressure over the area of the pad ,which is causing very ridged discs and pads, but still no cracks with 9 races and as many qualifying sessions + a couple of track days.
How was the manthey day.
I am at rockingham this weekend,if you want to look at/borrow these big discs.

Burz - Manthey day was good, typical Germanic attitude to track days, Russell and I got there half our late for the breafing, guy just gave us our wrist bands and said enjoy!

Only around 55 cars so very quiet, pixxed down around 2.30pm so left it a while, in fact went out in the evening on a very quiet public session to annoy the bikers!

On the 380mm's will take you up on that offer, will slide up to Rockingham tomorrow/Sunday to look/borrow them. Can we run these with standard rear set ups? and also what will the discs cost? Also what will 6 pots cost and is it worth getting Pork ones or AP?

Do us a favour and e-mail me your mobile no, tried to call you yesterday and it's saying no. error???

Cheers

JC

Looking forward to the battle at mira, just make sure my heads are on properly, and all nicely ready to go fast!
You will need good brakes to beat my mira speed trap mph,it should be interesting to see what we can both achieve!!

Is that the time you did going forwards, or the one where you were going around and around in circles?

Carnewal sell the GT3 seats with mounts for the 993:

www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93030.htm

JC, The GT3 are just right for the porkier amongst us. My 993RS seats were just plain tight (and Henry had to sit on a cushion to the 'ring and back when passangering 'cos he couldn't actually get his legs inside the seats).

Ah......you see this is what happens when you hit middle age and move to a water cooled Porsche; love handles, lardy arse, massive arm chairs in your sports car.
