Firstly, I'm looking to buy a new 992 Targa 4S Heritage and wondered if anyone had heard of any kind of discounts, and if so what sort of discount should I be aiming to achieve from the dealer, if any?

Secondly, I've heard that when the 911 Targa has the roof down, it can suffer with "Helmholtz Resonance". For those who don't know (which I didn't until investigating this car) "Helmholtz Resonance" is the throbbing noise you get which hurts your ears, when you're driving in a car and open for example, just one, or sometimes two back windows. Similarly with the front - Anyone know how bad this is on the 992 Targa, and is it such that you would avoid this beautiful car?

It is certainly a problem on the 991 according to a number of reviews.

According to the 992 review I watched, there is a little pop up wind deflector that reduces the effect (no clue if the 991 had that as well)

Unfortunately as Essential has said, this isn’t a car you can just walk into a dealership and order from new unfortunately. You’ll need to find one ‘used’ (although it likely won’t have any miles on it) and pay the first owner a significant premium I’m afraid.

Thank you all for your replies.

I did read that they were only producing 992 of the Heritage models but as they're still showing it on the configurator, I thought there'd be some availability left, but you think not?

Really ?!?! That’s ridiculous. They’re at a bigger premium that the Speedster currently is.

Seems Essential and SWGT3 are correct - Just spoke with my local dealer, they only received an allocation of two units, which obviously sold immediately.

Catchpole's review of the 992 Targa discusses the resonance ("a definite negative" even with the deflector).

I own an 18 reg 991.2 Targa 4 GTS and like you had read that the wind buffeting was a problem. I have driven a number of convertible cars over the years and can honestly say that I noticed no difference in wind noise between the convertibles I have driven and the Targa. The 991.2 does have a strip on top of the windscreen that pops up when the roof is down and that does reduce the overall wind noise. Each of us are different of course and what may be acceptable to me may be a problem for you. The only way to see if it is an issue is to have a drive in a Targa- either a 991.2 or 992. My understanding is that the roof design is the same for both.

It also improved with the windows lowered about an inch, try various configurations to suit.
