Gear selector lights

Should the gear selector be lit when driving at night with lights on? Had the car nearly 7 years now but it has never lit up although I presume it should to see what you are selecting in the dark. See pics.(Tiptronic by the way).

It doesn't on the PDK.

There are LEDs in the instrument cluster that tell you where the selector is (and a number gauge showing which gear).

There may be an orientation light in the interior light housing? If there is an aperture in it it is also selectable for brightness - you can switch between dim/less dim with a light press in with a pin

Thanks I will look. Not often out in the dark to be fair
