Hi,
So Porsche garage have said a clacking noise on my Macan is due to worn front drive shafts.
Apparently a known problem and there is a technical service bulletin advising to change to an upgraded part for all 2014- 2017 model year Macans.

My understanding of service bulletins, is that its issued by the manufacturer when there are several occurrences of an unanticipated problem.
That being so, should I be paying for this repair ?

They will be a wear and tear item, they have worn, the service bulletin just recommends an upgraded part is used.

You'll be paying.

Don't confuse a Service Bulletin with a Recall.

A service bulletin, as above, is released by Porsche to all their dealers to say something along the lines of

'if a customer complains of noise X or Y, check part Z. An updated part number 1234.000 was used on cars built after this date, please use this part nunmber going forward"

That is distinctly seperate to any warranty or recall.

Guys, its a low miles car. Still on factory installed steel discs and pads.
Is it normal for driveshafts to wear beyond service, before your first set of brakes?

I'd say it's not normal, but unfortunately Porsche UK won't care what I or anyone else on this forum thinks. I feel sorry for you but I think you'll paying for new driveshafts unless you can conjure up some goodwill from Porsche UK.

There is a Goodwill scheme in place in the UK for contingency in certain cases - you can ask if your situation warrants an application. Be prepared to answer some basic questions, how long have you had the car, how much have you put into the dealership/brand in general, has the car got full OPC service history......

In some cases the centre makes a contribution - hence it helps if you have been a service customer in the past.

No help at this point, but, an approved Warranty would have covered it no question. If you received a goodwill measure would you place a Warranty on the car subsequently?
