As many have I've always liked the classic lines of a 911.

I'm now (almost) in a position to do so and feel that a late carrera 3.2 coupe would be ideal(black).

I've not test driven one yet but did sit in a 964 recently. I'd read about the ofset pedals and steering and whils the seat fit like a glove the ofset pedals and steering was very odd after 24 years of everyday cars.

I know that it would be just a question of becoming accustomed to it , but what did you think and how long did it take to become natural? Are LHD cars the same but ofset in the other direction, I'd consider a LHD car as that wouldn't bother me.

I live in the North East and know of one specialist (Tom Ferguson) are ther more in the area. Thanks

I think you'll find offset pedals on RHD 911's through the 993 series. No such issue on LHD 911's. And all 911's through the 993 series, whether LHD or RHD, have slightly offset steering wheels.

Hi Stu,

I have a LHD 964. To be honest I have driven loads but find the LHD better. The main thing is you have somewhere to rest your left foot. In a RHD you'd be resting it on the clutch peddle.

Not quite true. I have a rhd 964 and find there is enough of a gap to rest my foot on the floor between the clutch & brake pedals (size 9 shoes). Although I only do this when not required to make many gear changes and when wearing light shoes.

As to the offset position I got used to it very quickly, I hardly notice it now (and the 964 isn't my only car).

I have recently, in the last 6/8 weeks bought a LHD 3.2 and had no problem swapping to the wrong side of the road. Grabbed for door handle instead of the gear stick a couple of times, but nothing other than that. I found that I was completely adjusted within half an hour of picker her up.

It was stranger being in the passenger side, it felt very odd being on that side of the car without a wheel. I think it was the bends that were worse!

We also have a normal RHD family car and I can swap between the two without realising changing sides.

The only time I ever noticed the pedal position was in the very first 911 I tried. Now if anyone sits in my car and says the position is odd, I say "what's odd?" because it seems normal now

never had a problem with it, even solo to meet the boys at le mans this year. 6 hours no troubles. It did help being LHD though.

My RHD 964 has the turbo pedal set, which in laymans terms means a dead pedal on the transmission tunnel.

It puts the clutch/brake pedal closer together so the offset is less noticable, but if you've big plates, its a bugger to drive without hitting both pedals.

I jumped in my (Rhd) 3.2 and never noticed the offset pedal issue that other refer to, I think it is a bit of a personal thing, regarding resting your left foot, I find my foot (Size 7) fits easily just to the left of the clutch pedal.

As others have pointed out not a lot of difference in pedal position right up to the 993, don't fret it will be fine, buy one enjoy, one simple as that.
