964 interior upgrades
Discussion
Hi
I recently bought a 1990 964 and love it. The car has been absolutely cherished with literally thousands psent on all the mechanicals, but the interior of the car is now looking its age and I want to upgrade it in keeping with the rest of the car. Specifically I want to fit rs style seats and rear roll bar/cage. I also want to re-upholster the car. Basically, I am looking for recommendations on the best place(s) to get hold of seats, cage, harnesses, rs style carpet set in addition to trim bits such as new dashboard and pillar trim etc.
I've checked out sites such as Porschehop, Jasmine, etc etc in addition to talking to JZ Machtech (who are near me and know this car very well), but I am basically looking for personal recommendations.
Cheers
Paul

I have a complete RS interior coming from these guys in The States - even after shipping and duties they are much cheaper than Southbound in the UK (really the only place that does this kind of thing over here).

They have been very easy to deal with so far, though have not yet received my goods. Quality is meant to be good, but I can't really comment yet. The only problem is that they don't do a RHD carpet set for a 964. The company have asked me to send them my old RHD interior when I've stripped it out, so they intend to be able to offer RHD in the future. My local specialist has a guy who they use to do trimming who will make up the RHD front section for me (Appbiz have sent lots of blank carpet to allow me to do this.)
As for seats, the original leather RS Recaros come up for sale very occasionally (at a price !), but you can buy brand new Recaro Pole Position or SPG seats trimmed in leather which are pretty much identical (SPGs are narrower though). I managed to pick up a pair of nomex SPGs and a full Safety Devices six point cage from a friend who was selling his 964 Turbo. These kind of things do come up for sale second hand quite often - the classifieds on this site are a good place to start.
If you were to do all of these things brand new I think you would be looking at well over £2,000 after fitting. You can save money by doing quite a lot of the work yourself, but there's no way round the fact that to do it all is quite a big and expensive job.

I have a genuine "Carrera RS" rear carpet & a set of carbon-fibre door cards & catches/pulls etc if you're interested.
These were fitted to my 964 C2 & always thought I'd get another 964 to put these back into - but alas that's not yet happened...
Southbound Trimmers usually advertise original RS door panels in the back of the PCGB mag.

I would really give the guys at Southbound a ring and see what they can do. These guys are the best at what they do. Especially given that offices are in a farmyard
.
When i was last down there - they had a a very early 930 that was having its interior put back to standard and a genuine slantnose SE Targa!!. being restored by AutoFarm for some bloke in Hong Kong.
They also have a very good range of new and used seats including all the Recaro's.
As for my replacement poppers, backing material and about 45 minutes of free advice - No Charge. These are top blokes.

No denying the quality of their work or advice (I have bought several bits and pieces from them and been very happy with the service), however all of the RS interior bits are available elsewhere at significantly less money. I can't comment on quality yet and the materials used are not Porsche OE, but as I am not doing a concours job that is just fine for me.
If you want to do an authentic OE job then Southbound are definitely the people, but they're not cheap and their waiting list is about 3 months !
