I’m looking at Macans (as well as a couple of other makes) for my next car and I’ve read conflicting info to whether some have Auxiliary heating so that you can set your car to be nice and toasty warm for when you get in. Can you have this feature and if so what spec do you need to have?

Also it’s my understanding that older models don’t have RTTI so what build year did this become available, and again what spec do you need to have it?

TIA.

At this point Macans do not have and never have had the auxiliary heating option available as a factory fitted option in the UK. I’m on my third and having bought my first in 2014 I also would have bought it if it had been available.

I’m not sure what RTTI is other than a technical term so can’t answer that.

Ah so that’s what RTTI is ! No idea I am afraid but I would get a car that has Apple CarPlay over RTTI personally as the traffic info on Waze/Google Maps is much more accurate/timely in my experience.

Certain Macan had an electric heater within the HVAC unit; not disclosed or specifically specced which gave a faster warm up in the cabin after start - I will look at what spec it came in (I suspect diesel given the comparatively slow warm-up characteristics of diesel over petrol......

(ETA: diesel had electric aux heater for warm-up after engine start. An Eberspacher aux heating unit is listed in the Service Info, with remote keypad operation and in car button but I suspect this either wasn't available on UK spec cars or an obscure/expensive option as I have not seen it? (plenty in Cayenne/Panamera))

Infotainment PCM in Macan started with PCM 3.1 (DIN2 plastic bezel screen); went to PCM 4.0 (DIN2 full glass screen) and with the latest generation went to PCM 4.1 (PCM 5.0 screen but with PCM 4.1 central computer)

On early cars the RTTI is only available if you have 'online services' option, which can be retrofitted if not on the car depending on build date of PCM; the latest Nav update must also be installed.

On PCM 4.0, Connect and Connect Plus began as an option (cannot be retrofitted) and cars without cannot have external communication (Internet functionality); external SIM means PAYG Internet functionality or you can pair to your handset data package if cheaper (unlimited plans help here!). Wired Carplay also supported (from one of the two USB locations)

2018> cars got Connect Plus as standard; with in car WiFi sharing as an option. Built in SIM (with 29.99/mth subscription (7MB) to online services); late car have software changes making external data pairing difficult. Wireless Carplay functionality on later cars late 19/early 20MY

Oh right, I didn’t know that apple car play had a traffic feature. I’ve never really looked into Apple carplay tbh as I just assumed it was all to do with music. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. So are you saying any car with PCM has the ability to have RTTI? I’m not 100% sure what Connect and Connect + is, is this where you can use the app to check fuel levels, service history, lock the car etc?

Download Waze and give it a try. It uses data from all the other users so it’s way more up to date than anything else...users report roadworks, police speed traps, vehicles parked on the verge etc and it has speed camera’s on it. Google bought it so Google Maps now uses their traffic data.

Once you open Apple CarPlay you can just open the App on the PCM screen. Simples smile

Likewise. Once Apple CarPlay had Waze available I've not used the Porsche system since. I've learnt something today though so that's always a good thing smile

What MY did Macans get PCM and Apple CarPlay? I’ve seen a 66 plate MY17 car that looks nice, will this have it?

2017 with PCM 4.0 (Look for full glass screen - no plastic bezel)

If you find a PCM 4.0 without Carplay it can be retrofitted; cost varies depending on spec prior to upgrade - cheapest is if the car already has Nav and Voice control; Carplay needs the GPS and microphone inputs to operate correctly.

You CAN get aftermarket Carplay kit for PCM 3.1 - around £500 - but if you intend to have a Warranty on the car it might make it an issue.....

I've just ordered a Macan and wondered what the "heatable windscreen - 4GR" was. I'm guessing since Ford lost the patent that it might just be wires in the glass or is it a heated element in the blower air path?

It’s a transparent gel layer sandwiched between two sheets of laminated glass. Not sure how it is heated though.
IMHO it is inferior to the BMW approach judging by the heated screen in my wife’s Mini in comparison to my 2019 Macan.

Thanks very much for the info, looking at this is appears to be a full glass screen so will be PCM 4.0? What ball park figure are we talking to retrofit Carplay, are we talking hundreds?

That car has Nav - and voice control looking at the icon on the stalk - so it is literally a licence and coding; one of the cheapest upgrades possible.

Thanks for the info. Is that something that will void warranty, or is it a main dealer 'fit'?

Genuine 'Tequipment retrofit' - the codes released by the factory 'enables' the functionality and must be input using the PIWIS tester.

Have a look at

https://content3.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipmen...

for other options available.
