OPC extended warranty transfer query

All - apologies for another thread on the matter but I wanted to understand the mechanics in relation to an agreed 997.2 private purchase and the car has had a recent 111 and has a clean bill of health barring a few minor bits.

It's not currently under warranty and I haven't decided if I will go with it or not but if I do here is my understanding of the ideal way forward - can those 'in the know' advise if I'm on point or missing it!

Get existing owner to have any remedial work done and to apply warranty in his name.
(saves me waiting 90 days and may not need a new 111 (he will check).

We can then complete the sale / purchase in effect immediately.
(don't think I there is a minimum time period he needs to own or any need to wait?)

Last stage (dependent on OPC seemingly):
Once I get the new V5C I pop into my opc and they update ownership details (in effect that's the warranty now in my name)
Or
May need to send off the transfer form which comes with the warranty when it's bought (prev. owner needs to sign)

Am I missing anything?

Suspect the rules have changed recently as I just bought a Cayenne from Sytner Select (ie non OPC) It wasn't advertised with Porsche Warranty and indeed I got a 6 month Sytner warranty with the car. Called my OPC last week to confirm I needed to own for 90 days before I get the 111point check done and was told it still had a balance of Porsche warranty on it.

I queried as I said I thought warranty only transferred on a private sale and was told no, even buying from a non OPC dealer the previous warranty would transfer to me. Am awaiting paperwork to come through.

I bought a 911 from a indi dealer with 12mths of residual OPC extended warranty on it. I just filled out the card at the back of the booktlet and got a letter from porsche a few weeks later saying it was all done. Ive since put another 2 years on it without needing the 111chk.

So the OPC has told the seller that the warranty couldn’t be transferred on a private sale.

I have heard rumours of there being some changes to how things are working in recent months but I’m concerned that this is straight BS (although not too sure how to prove it!)

That's interesting, as that is specifically not supposed to be allowed.

Was is it being sold on behalf of a private customer? i.e. not technically being sold by a independant dealer.

Did you manage to get to the bottom of this? My Macan that I bought used from an OPC has 13 months left to run, was thinking a private sale with a transferable warranty would set it above the others.

IIRC it says on the form private sale only but they don’t check I guess. How on earth would they know unless you’d be mad enough to tell them?

As per terms and conditions only private and OPC can transfer the warranty

Just a guess here but would it be that the ORIGINAL manufacturers warranty from new stands and can be transferred but the OPTIONAL extended warranty (an insurance product) cannot be transferred? My further guess would be that it is a check and balance in order to avoid non OPC dealers being able to surreptitiously sell w full Porsche warranty?

The Extended full warranty is very reassuring for many I am sure, and that is quite a USP for OPCs?

What would stop a dealer getting a customer to run a 2nd hand trade in through 111 pt check, warranty it and the dealer allows for the costs in the ‘deal’. The dealer could then sell on w full Porsche warranty?

Buying at a premium through OPC brings considerable peace of mind while buying elsewhere, bringing it to an OPC for 111 pt check (with no doubt required work) and a new warranty comes with ‘considerable’ risk? (‘Considerable’ being relative to different people….)

No we’re talking about the extended warranty. The phot above is what it says in the booklet, but like I said just fill it out and send it off.
