v5 question and upfront bank transferApproved Porsche Dealer
Discussion
Hi All I have placed a deposit on an approved used Porsche TTS. The dealer has put the v5 in my name before I have collected the car due for collection later this week. I received electronic notification. They have asked me to tax the car before collection also. Is this normal during Covid? What if I dont like it in the flesh or they try and shaft me on my part ex.
They also want cleared funds up front via bank transfer is this again normal? I have never really paid upfront and never had a v5 put in my name for a car ive not collected?

Lots of people buy cars “remotely” and don’t see them until they turn up at their house on a trailer...Covid or not. Personally I’ve never done it and don’t think I would. I suppose it depends on how detailed the information/video/photographs you have from the dealer is. I would absolutely make sure that anything that have told you about the car is in writing and I would also ask them to put in writing what the procedure is if you choose to reject the car. There’s obviously a legal process but I would expect better than that from an OPC i.e. a no quibble refund policy.
Seems strange thing to do by he dealer unless you have committed to the deal
I have bought a few cars remotely and it has always been on the basis is the car is not as described it will be rejected.
My usual procedure
Make inrial enquiry
Get detailed video of the whole car
Get in writing if any scrathes , damages, if it has been painted / repaired etc
DO the deal
Pay the money
Have the car delivered
V5 to foillow
Never had V5 before the deal though
Only had 1 issue with an S class as it had a small scratch below the front bumper and I only noticed it as it was coming off the transporter and a quick call to dealer resulted in him paying for repair at a bodyshop of my shop and they also had a light pull to the left checked and sorted by local MB dealer so all in all happy enough

Bought mine remotely with no problems from an OPC and funds were sent by bank transfer. Got a video review from them and all was as stated.Tax and reg were done and new plate fitted. On pick up, it was checked over by my friend.
I think we were given a copy of the V5 to tax it, original was then sent on by the DVLA.

Bought a used vw recently from local VW dealer. Had to pay in advance by bank transfer. Thought they would take the money over the phone from my card, but no, had to be by transfer.
V5 arrived later. If you've paid your deposit, don't think the advance v5 change is much of an issue. Certainly not one for you!

Sorry for slight thread derailment but how long did you wait for the V5? I ask as I bought a Golf R from a VW dealer over a month ago and still haven’t received a V5 - they are claiming it’s covid that’s delaying it but it’s surely been too long now.V5 arrived later. I think you are failing to realise that car dealers are only allowed to be open during the current lockdown for ‘click and collect’, not for general tyre kicking. If you want to car then you have to pay up front and arrange collection, not to view the car or a face to face negotiation.
Does the dealer even know that you want to part exchange?

Personally I wouldn't have put the V5 in your name yet (Coming from an ex Sales Manager) just in case there is an issue and you want to not take the car. There is no reason to shaft you on the PX because the figures would be agreed and if you've been honest with the description then there is no need to worry.
Payment, again as mentioned it's click and collect only now. So no test drives/walk rounds etc. Most garages I know won't take cards any more. It's unsecure for them, raises excess chares and takes a while to hit their account (Even though it leaves yours it's not debited to the dealer until later as it has to go through merchant services - The people who run the card terminal).
