I knew Taycans were fast, but this video shows they are. And no one can claim they're not a sports car.

They're not a sports car, they're a sporty electric saloon car.

The first test is a joke, it got a head start and only one lap.

The second test is just a drag race and electric's torque is always going to be hard to beat.

No one would say a Model S is a sports car.

Dynamically the Porsche is probably better but it isn't vastly different.

It weighs 2.3 tonne so you'd go through consumables pretty fast.

There's alot of BS floating around the EV sphere. No wonder Tesla share price is ridiculous.

Hmm, can't feeling like that was 'all for the cameras' to be honest. Turn that race into 5 laps or more and I think things would have been a different story altogether, when you start to factor in brake fade, weight, tyres etc.

Clever bit of marketing. In reality the taycan is 3.5 seconds slower than the cup car over a standing start lap on cold tyres. Add another 2 seconds for warm tyres on the cup and you are getting closer to the truth. Thats over 1 lap. Over 10 it would be a bigger average as the tyres and brakes on the taycan overheat and go off. Probably more like 7-10 seconds a lap off the Cup and 5-7.5 seconds a lap off of the GT3 over the distance allowed on one charge.

So probably about the same lap pace as a Carrera S. Still not bad for a 2 ton bus

The Taycan seems to have brought a healthy dollop of dynamic performance to the EV saloon market. In normal driving conditions the air suspension rides incredibly well, far better than competitors. Maybe something like an M5 would be the one test it against performance wise?

Would be fascinating to know how much battery would be left after 10 hard laps
