Morning all,

As per the subject, has anyone used any of the aftermarket kits to add CarPlay to previous generations of PCM? I have found a couple of companies who offer kits for this that use the AUX setting on MEDIA but it’s a self install job....recipe for disaster I suspect. I’m looking to add this to my 2014 Panamera.

The companies are:

There's various threads on other forums covering this, mainly linking to NM in Guernsey:

https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-958-2011-2018/...

Iike you I wouldn't try it myself either. I e-mailed NM a couple of weeks ago but no reply, maybe they're closed for COVID?

If only you could add DAB as well

Some videos on YouTube of the process - basically need to add a PCB in the PCM - I'd say if you could build a PC then you could do it yourself - just go slow and use the videos to see how to remove trim pieces etc.

I fitted a similar kit to a MINI (the MINI / BMW one is more straightforward) - the taking the dash apart is the scary part, trusting that the clips will undo and not break and that you didn't miss a screw - after that it's all pretty simple.

If you are going to DIY then I'd get the kit direct from China - Ali express etc - as they are less than half the price for exactly the same, you're just cutting the middle man out.

I fitted the NM Automotive kit to my 991. It works really nicely and made such a difference to how modern it seems.

The instructions were very good, and combined with a couple of YouTube videos showing the installation I didn’t have any problems.

That said, I am an engineer and reasonably confident doing stuff like that. All I can suggest is watching the YouTube videos of installation. You’ll probably be able to tell from those whether you’d feel confident to attempt it.

Thanks for the replies, they’re very helpful indeed.

There’s no way I’m the right guy for the job; based on previous experiences I know I’ll end up breaking a clip or losing a screw inside the dash! I’ll let you know how I get on after speaking to a few installation businesses.

I fitted the NM kit to a 981 Spyder a couple of years ago. Fairly easy fit if you’re patient and careful. I have no prior experience and it took about 2 hours. Very happy with the result and I’d consider it good value for money.
Instructions are clear and there is plenty on YouTube about the fit.
Nick is excellent and returns calls within minutes to explain any questions.

I fitted the Unique kit to my wife’s Polo a few weeks later. Equally easy fit, but it seems to be a little more temperamental when connecting to the phone wirelessly. Works, but needs manually connecting occasionally.
