Thinking of changing my 991.2 C2S for GTS... worth it?
Discussion
Subject says it all really, trying to wrap some man math around chopping the C2S in for the GTS... is the £15-20k cost to change really worth it?
I’ve a fairly no frills optioned C2S, it has most of the necessary driver aids (no sports exhaust!) enjoy it but fancy a change. GTS would have the exhaust ✅ a decent aftermarket would cost 4-5k and has the wide body ✅ prefer to stick with the 2WD GTS.
OR wait a year see what 992 C2S looks like, or another curve ball 718 GT4? First world problems eh..

I should also say, looking for the needle in the haystack as I want leather. Alcantara looks nice, but not sure my OCD can take it. So it would be the 991.2 as there seems to be a few more of those around, also love the apple car play.
First generation GT4 values seem to of held up well, so despite the reviews saying the 718 not as focused suggests might not take as much of a hit for next 2 years. But standard rules of newer the car higher the depreciation still apply surely!

The reviews are mostly b
ks the 718 is more focused than the 981 not least because it has a proper high revving GT engine unlike the detuned strangled C2S lump in the 981 which results in dire fuel economy.
Yes the pre gpf 981 sounds marginally better at low speeds at least but the 718 is better in every other area. Many owners have fitted aftermarket exhausts but I haven't the car sounds good enough stock.
The cars share the same gearbox with infamous highish ratios but the torque at lower revs on the 718 v the 981 largely overcomes this. The 718 clutch is lighter than the 981 which I dislike but bizarrly it is heavier than the 991.2 GT3.
Yep 981 values have held up well with proper spec and mileage 5 year old cars still commanding £70k plus. This will support 718 GT4 values but a 6 month old proper spec and mileage 718 is easily worth another £20k on every level imo.
For the record I have owned both the 981 and 718 GT4s from new.

I agree with all your points bar the sound. The 981 GT4 sounds much fruitier and nicer than the 718 4.0. It’s more sonorous and just sounds overall smoother. I agree the GT derived 4.0 is a more effective unit and in itself sounds great.

I’d suggest 991.2 GTS - non GPF. I’m fairly sure the last batch of cars had GPF. I think the way to spot it is the Co2 emissions. Someone else may know a better way to determine it.
Happy shopping.
Yep. I think the changeover was car registered around summer 2018. Not sure how to confirm though. Happy shopping.

Make sure you get a 991.1 GTS which is a better package and likely to hold its value better. Especially a 'manuel'.
Alternatively the 718 GT4 is a great package but more focused.
Depends whether you want an older 911 or a contemporary focused Cayman.
The GT4 wins imo.

2017/18. Be useful to understand how I tell them apart, just ran a 2017 and 2019 car registration through DVLA website and CO2 value identical.
Are you sure? I’m not sure in all fairness but 2018 seems late for a .1 car. The .2 was definitely available in 2017 - a mate of mine up the road has one. GT4P said:
Sometimes the co2 figures are wrong on adverts, also manual v pdk the latter being lower. 991.2 2016-2019 with gts arriving late 2017.
To check co2 go to gov website
I wasn’t entirely sure when the GTS started, figured it was 2017 as I don’t recall ever seeing a .2 GTS registered before then. To check co2 go to gov website
Gov website was no clearer compared 2017 and 2019 vehicle registrations. I’m looking at 2, the first probably is before GPF filter was fitted the other 2018 so could go either way...
I forget how much I hate buying cars 🤣
991.2 GTS was 2017 - 2019.
I've got a miami blue 2017 Carrera with pdk and it's such a great car! Would recommend to anyone. I'm not convinced that 991.1 GTS is a better car, although I haven't driven one.
Main difference and how to tell 991.1 from 991.2 is exhaust and front grill - 991.2 has twin central exhaust pipes and one slat in grill on outer edge of front bumper whereas 991.1 has twin exhaust at each corner of rear and 2 slats in grill.

I got a 65 plate 991.1 C2 GTS from new, still have it now, approaching 70k miles. Before that I had a 991.1 C2 GTS for 20k miles. The first silver car was manual with the big black glass sunroof; that car was crap. The second car is orange with PDK with no sunroof, it's chalk and cheese to the silver car and is fantastic. Two years in to ownership I bought a 991.2 C2GTS with a view to replacing the orange car but the new car was pants in comparison, so i sold it after 2k miles and kept the orange car. later I bought a 718 Cayman GTS 2.5 turbo, I sold that after 4k miles and kept the 991.1. Later I bought a Carrera T , sold that after 4k miles and kept the 991. I have other cars, lots of other cars, but the 991.1 C2GTS is by far my favourite daily and by far the best non GT Porsche i've got or had. With the GTS it's important NOT to have a sunroof cos they have different suspension.
