Just for my own interest, is a freshly build 996/997 cup engine the same specification as the road engines?

If not what are the differences?

I appreciate the cup engines need to be rebuild every x number of miles, but isn't that because the assumption is that they have been raced?

The life/hours thing is purely wear at an assumed constant 8000 plus rpm range that a race engine operates at continually. Even then it’s about slight power looses with the leakage of compression etc around the very slightly worn components. No different in a road GT3 engine if it operated in the same environment - except it has unnecessary bits on it which would probably increase the wear rate.
