Changing the rear brake pads on my Carrera 4S (Turbo Brakes)is giving me problems. I have 2 packs of anti-squeal shims (4 in each) that stick to the back of each pad. These in turn locate into holes in the centre of the pistons with a circular spring clip. The problem is that one pack push-fit easily into upper or lower piston, but other pack appears to have a larger diameter caliper-piston clip. Both pistons have identical size holes, and previous owner/mechanic didn’t even bother to refit them (so have nothing to compare with…).
Have I got the right parts? Do you have to use brute-force to fit larger clips? Which are top and bottom?
Don’t want to refit wrongly or leave them off again as brakes were squealing really badly without them.
Help!!

When I have done this the squal pads have fitted neatly into the piston without any real force.

have a look here for pictures and description.

Clubsport,

Did you have different sizes for the pistons and were yours the turbo brakes of the standard black ones?

Cheers

Er...I did have different size piston sizes...but then to confuse things mine is an RS which has Turbo size rear red calipers with slightly larger piston sizes!

If you ask an opc or europarts where I get mine from, they have all of these on the shelf, in original Porsche pckets,,,the guys know which kit oes with the turbo brakes.

Cheers.

I think mine have been wrongly supplied from local Porsche Centre. My 4 pistons are exactly the same size so I think they must need 4 identical 'squeel thingies' on each caliper. Will check with dealer in the morning.

A little off topic but when either of you changed your pads did you find the metal (steel?) plate that lines the top and bottom of where the pads sit had buckled/"dog eared" upwards?

This happened on my 928 S4 (also Brembo 4 pots) and i'm dredding changing my 993tt brakes becuase of this. I've known people who have had to undo and take out the little steel liner (little star shaped bolt to undo- mounted at an awkward angle) out to clean underneath

Marquis_Rex - Was dreading this myself but luckily mine were fine, they were sitting flush to the calliper. I know if there is corrosion between and you have to take them out that you will have to heat the torx bolts up in order to remove them. This is because they are locked in with a compound. It is also best to cover the pistons with a metal plate to protect them while heating the bolts.
