Cayenne 4.8 GTS - Views ?
Discussion
Hi all, 1st post in this forum I think !
Currently have a X3 30D that I use generally and to tow with.
I'm now looking to trade it in and thinking about a Cayenne 4.8 GTS. I'm looking at a couple on Autotrader at around 2015 low(ish) miles @ (30k) mark and they appear very nice indeed, fully loaded with pan roof etc (and both with tow bars)
My questions are thus :

My questions are thus :
- What should I be looking for when I view these cars ? Is there anything that really jumps out that should have me walking away ?
- Real world fuel consumption ? Anyone with towing info especially interested (2 berth caravan - nothing special)
I have a 13 gts. Fuel consumption isn’t that bad for the weight of the thing and the performance.
Long trip I average 12.7l/100kms. Normal driving it hovers around 14-15.
To drive in the suv world nothing comes close. It’s properly good. Handles extremely well. Makes an amazing noise, seats are comfortable, it’s been reasonably reliable. Mines just ticked over to 120k miles having bought it approved used with 110k on the clock.
They eat tyres and brakes, I’ve had to have my thermostat changed and have recently replaced the discs and pads. They are quite fussy in that any slight issue will throw a warning light and the dreaded bong sound. Electronics are a bit temperamental (my heated wheel has decided to stop working as of this morning along with the auto stop start)
Cold starts with the flaps open make you smile, overtaking makes you smile,
I chose a gts over a turbo s as the turbo felt like it had way too much power to enjoy driving it. With the gts you can use all the revs. Gearbox is excellent and is an aisin/Toyota unit. Transfer cases fail but are now covered for 10 years from production date. Mine is on its third (all covered by warranty and one covered since warranty expired)
Bose hifi is excellent, I’ve added CarPlay to mine. £300 and an hour to fit)
Repair costs outside opc really aren’t that bad at all. My air suspension froze up a few months ago in -25c sensors went out of parameters and a fuse blew. Fuse 56 (keep a few spares during winter as they all do that according to my opc)
You will want the updated xenon beam bending lights or whatever they are called and heated ventilated seats are a must in my eyes too.
Interior has stood up to wear very well although I suspect a lot of the leather isn’t really actual leather.
Window switches fall apart for fun. Replacements take 10 mins and cost £30 for a Chinese copy from amazon. (Better quality than the original Uk made panel)
Vent tabs fall off. Easy fix.
Don’t expect Lexus build quality despite the price tag, I made this mistake. Whatever they lack in quality they make up for in driving dynamics.
1 litre of oil between yearly services is normal too.
I would expect a full print out of all warranty work undertaken before buying too. Also states how many hours it’s been off the road since new which will give you a good indication.
First owner of mine (previous owner) bought it new and piled 110k on it in 6 years commuting to Portugal from Poland so the mileage doesn’t really concern me overly much as it’s been mostly long haul.
There’s a YouTube channel from the Netherlands with a guy towing a massive hobby 650 behind his all over Europe. (Must buy a hobby 650 this year...)
He states 15-17l/100kms towing but I think that might have been just what he told his wife.

If the service schedule is the same as here in the US then you may be buying at an expensive point in the car's life. From my own experience, the 40K mile service is big and about $1400 at a dealer. It is also about this time when you will be changing brakes and tyres. Brakes at the dealer would be around $4-5k but I did mine myself for a fraction of that. Another example was the $1200 I was quoted to replace the battery. I bought one from Audi instead for $270. VW did not have one in stock but it would have been less than $200 if they did.
I am at 70k miles now and the car still makes me smile. There is nothing out there that I would swap my car +cash for. I couldn't justify the $80k cost to upgrade to a new one so I am going to keep this until it dies. It has a good amount of power and sounds fantastic. The cold start in underground garages still makes my kids giggle even after 6 years.

really helpful folks ... thanks !
I'm used to 32mpg in the X3 (remapped 30d - in PH fashion) and 25mpg when towing
But I did used to have a Forester running 330 so 16 mpg of 98 octane is not something that shocks me !
To be fair, only do 10k miles a year so it's not really a concern
Useful pointers though .... will investigate further !

"Gas Mileage" is very journey sensitive. If I am doing short trips around town I will be getting 20mpg. Sitting at 80mph I may bee getting 30mpg. Start having fun though and it likes a drink.
I concurr, the second you as much as look at the sport button mine ends up giving me low teens MPG. It is addictive though and after nearly a year the novelty hasn't worn off at all. My wife also seems to enjoy driving around in sport mode permanently. 500 PLN (100 quid) a week in fuel for someone that works from home and doesn't appear to really go anywhere is a bit excessive but its now is the time to buy a v8 before we are all forced into electric vehicles
(At least thats how i justify it to myself)Get one bought you won't regret it! (Despite my possibly negative/realistic tone in my first message)
