I've been walking around with a permenant smile on my face for the last three weeks after getting my first porsche. Been having as much fun in it as road laws/concience allows, but I've decided to head off to Europe to really "unleash the beast"

So far I've looked at the Roads forum and got some good ideas for derestricted autobahns etc and some mountain passes in the Alps, but anyone got any specific ideas. I'm toying with the idea of visiting some of the tuners in Germany eg Ruf/Gemballa etc. Does anyone know if they accept visitors? Can anyone recommend any places or roads roads worth a visit? I've got about 8 days to play with.

Hmmmm. Just can't wait! :driving: :bounce:

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Did a tour of Europe in a Boxster a copule of years ago.... headed down though France and along the south coast then into Italy up to Lake Como. Then into Switzerland and finally finished in Brugges. Best bits were the south coast of France, the run up to Como, Como to Geneva through the mountains and sleeping all the way through Luxembourg (wife was driving!) - only joking about Luxembourg, but it didn't take long to cross! Worst bits - French toll roads (fast and easy, but boring), a night stop in Milan. Some places the car attracted a lot of attention but in Geneva people were clearly amued that I couldn't afford a 911!!! Top tip - book hotels with secure garages - we used Best Western who do some voucher scheme where you can get into 4* hotels for 3* money and loads of theirs have secure parking. Hope that helps and enjoy the trip!

A trip to the Nurburgring is an absolute must,

The Manthey garage is based right on it, and anyone who turns up in a Porsche, usually gets the guided tour....

The roads and surrounding area are stunning, set in the Eiffel Mountains.

The Alps are great too, the Col de la Bonnette in the South of France is the highest mountain road in Europe, and then a fantastic drive down to the coast to Nice/Monaco.

Ruf welcome visitors. They are in the south, about midway between Stuttgart and Munich. The B-roads in the surrounding area are spectactular. 0049 8265 911 911
In Stuttgart you have the Porsche and M-B museums, and in Munich there's the BMW version.
If you fancy a high-speed run, the A5 going past the Frankfurt airport, between Js 23 and 25, can often be your best site. In the middle of that derestricted section there is a five-mile stretch that is four lanes wide, nearly dead-flat and -straight. You'd best get there at dawn for the safest running, and do a preliminary recce to be sure there is no debris lying on the road.

Stelvio (Stelzio?!?!) pass in the alps? Evo did some articles there and the road looks great! They also have some fine articles on roads near Modena...

Nurburgring - definitely
Stuttgart - porsche factory tour
Silvretta Hochalpenstrasse (Silvretta High Alpine Pass - austria)
Stelvio pass - italy
modena - fezza factory
bologna - pagani factory

than on the way back
Hockenheim
and a track day at Spa

Book the factory tours in advance to avoid disappointment.

Have you considered the Eurohoon trip in early September?

www.eurohoon.com/megahoon.htm

There is also a forum on PH:

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=131&h=0

Carwise we are going on factory tours of both Pagani and Maserati, then visiting the Lamborghini Museum and the Galleria Ferrari museum.

DAZ

(Gotta agree with Flemke, the roads around the Ruf factory are staggering, especially from the passenger seat )

Thanks guys. That's brilliant- exactly what I was looking for. Filled me with yet more enthusiasm

I'll be keeping a photo diary and will put some photos up when I get back.

Keep the ideas coming.

Daz, I have thought about the Hoon, but I won't be able to make the dates.

Adam, thanks very much for the offer. Very kind of you. Will definitely take you up on it!

All the best,

Aki
