Getting off the line?
Discussion
Was doing some experimentation at the weekend on a private road.
Was investigating the best way of making a standing start.
Probably the worst combination for this I'm afraid, hence the question - C4 and Tiptronic
Anyway, my question is, what is the best method?
Auto, manual, full throttle, PSM on/off, hold revs on torque converter?

Absolutely no insult intended, but I'd say that there is less skill involved in launching an Auto (tiptronic) car than a manual.
I don't think the auto, or manual setting will make the slightest difference off the line, but MAY come into play slightly in the change from first to second, allowing you to change precisely when you choose, rather than the box deciding for you.
I'm not sure I'd do too many launches holding the car on the brakes, with big revs, whilst in drive, as it won't do your auto box any good, but I suspect that this would be the way to get a really quick launch.
In a manual, as you may know, the optimum launch is usually achieved by holding optimum revs (usually somewhere between, 3 and 4 thousand), and then side stepping the clutch. Again, this won't do much for the life of the drivetrain.

I remember reading that the "best" way to launch - ie quick off the line while respecting the car, is lowish revs, bring the clutch up quickly but not slipping it, then get traction & get rolling then nail it.
I never race off the lights in my TT, mostly because I want the car to last & secondly because its actually quite difficult to launch a turbo car fast of the lights without lots of revs & abusing the clutch, which I just feel makes me look an idiot at a set of lights.

The drag racers i8n the states often use a device which (on auto transmissions) engages 1st and reverse simultaneously, bring up the revs, switcxh it off and maximum speed launch, as you are already in 1st with the torque converter hooked up and ready to roll....
It's called a Transbrake.. and we use them in the UK as well...
We run a 3.5k rpm startline limiter, so engage the transbrake, (1st and reverse) go wide open throttle, car doesn't move, revs sit at 3.5k..
Lights change, let go of transbrake button, and.. weeeeeeee

I value my transmision too my transmision too much for any of those antics.
