I have a 997.2 Turbo and have been told by my indy that one of the turbos is showing signs of an oil leak. Can anyone recommend a good turbo specialist for refurb? I’ve heard a few good things about AET-Turbos.

Anyone else been through this process? Any tips? I’ve been advised that if one turbo is going it’s worth doing both while the engine is lowered. This is usually a no expense spared car but this is going to be painful money and I want to make sure I get it right first time.

Your turbos could probably both do with a refurb. I'd take the opportunity to refurb and upgrade to the 62mm hybrid compressor wheel they do for your VTG then remap. You can run the car with less boost but it produces more power wink

Thanks. It sounds tempting but I’d like to leave the car as stock as possible. Besides, 500bhp is more than enough for me!

I had a similar issue with a customer car, found when they were dismantled, totally corroded away.

I ended up with pair of new genuine ones.

Please be aware that the suction pipe from drain tank on passenger turbo is on back order,I have been waiting since November, still no delivery dates.

The good thing is,at least u can change everything with engine instu.

Cheers everyone for your responses. I think the initial shock has worn off now. You certainly need a hefty war chest to run these cars but I’m reminded it’s worth it every time I drive mine.

Just a quick update on my turbo issues. It looks like we caught them in time. One side only required a new seal and clean up, the other side was a little worse and needed bearings, impeller shaft, seals and new brass guides. It could have been worse with both turbos needing full refurb. The cost wasn’t too crippling: approximately £2k plus 6 hours labour, which is covered in my maintenance plan. The cost also includes £700 of new pipes, gaskets and seals.

OK it was an older car but a few years ago now my 996 Turbo lost all boost and turned out to be a rotten turbo body - completely rotted through side casing. Managed to find a brand new one for under a grand versus Porsche then price of £3K plus. Swopping wasn’t easy as the oil pipes all needed replacing also. As you say, these cars are not cheap to run, best of luck with the repair options and hopefully your back on the road soon.

Yes, a suitably large war chest is needed to keep these cars running but the payoff is still worth it.
