Hi,

Bought a 2017 Macan Turbo, which has PCM 4.0, a few weeks ago. Loving the car, but the maps are badly out of date. What is the best way to go about updating the PCM software and Maps? Is an OPC the only route, or are their DIY options too?

Thanks!

Have been quoted the following by my nearest dealer...

Update PCM and Maps: £672
Enable Apple CarPlay: £630

Total: £1,300

There MUST be a cheaper option out there surely?

I would swallow the cost of Apple Car Play personally…..PCM is useless in comparison to the functionality you get from Car Play. And in theory it’ll keep up to date which PCM won’t.

I’m just shocked it’s so expensive to do a quick USB update on the software? Are there third parties who can do this for you?

Looks like the CarPlay enablement is a software update/switch/coding. Making the quote from Porsche even more ridiculous.

There's a few discussions on this on other forums, such as https://www.718forum.com/threads/pcm4-android-auto...

Also a guy on eBay that "appears" to offer this for £200.

No affiliation with any of these - at your own risk and all that......

Check your VIN on the Campaign checker - you might be due the PCM satellite map licence update; an update to 2020 maps is possible at same time.

Could there be some license fee or cost to Apple that Porsche needs to cover?

Potentially. But considering the cheapest Sony head unit with CarPlay is <£300 would suggest it can't be that much. Surely?

Either way. Sounds doable via coding, accompanied by the associated risks.

CarPlay/Android Auto is quickly becoming a 'must have' to keep an up to date entertainment system.
