Yet another (!) 996 TT clutch question.

Actually not specific to a TT, but my clutch feels OK but in reverse it judders.
Its not that big a problem, don't spend that much time in reverse, but is that an indication of a worn clutch. Its OK in forward gears, though noticed a slightly higer bite point than usual recently.
Any views appreciated.

Clutch judder can be caused by the clutch or the engine mountings, i think reverse is more prone because the mountings tend to be designed more for forward motion.
I have experienced clutch judder on new clutches as well as old, sometimes the flywheel is the cause and this is rarely treated when a clutch needs replacing.
My view is that clutch judder is a little like brake judder, it can be caused by excessive heat being produced at sometime in its life and from then on is a judder problem sometimes at the beginning of its life sometimes towards the end

Thanks mate - the car goes in next week for a major service - should I get the OPC to check the clutch & fly-wheel ? Dunno how easy/cheap it is to check it.
I hesitate because if I ask them to check then whats the betting they will say I need both changed......even if they don't !!

Definetly worth mentioning, they won't be able to tell without examining the clutch but they may be able to tell if its close to the end of its life, they generally have a view based upon mileage and age. I am not sure whether they can peek at the clutch plate thickness from an inspection hole.
If the clutch is not slipping going uphill in 4th / 5th full boost then you may decide to put up with it.
