Will some Porsche owners switch to an Emira
Discussion
As a 987.2 owner I have to say that, yep, I'm tempted. For the first time, too. But it does depend on pricing.
At 60ish k I'd definitely be in, at least for a test drive.
At 85k I'd be out. Just think of the lightly used alternatives to which that kind of money gives you access: 911s, Gallardos, F430s...

No, obviously not as it's only a "breathed on Evora"...
The most amusing criticism though was BCR banging on about how the car was too wide, despite being only 2" wider than his A110..
Looks like their website has never seen so much traffic:

I'd suspect a fair few may well make the switch...

I think some may want to change even if it isn't better as such but just for the sake of change. Traditional Cayman owners might flip between the Cayman and Emira over the years.
New pricing may stop some buying at the start but once depreciation kicks it it will be interesting...
Evora launched into the teeth of a recession at 911 money so didn't stand a chance.

Yes. I love my 997.2 turbo cab but have owned it for four years and I’m starting to fancy a change. I bought a 987.2 recently and I’d forgotten how wonderful driving a lightish N/A car could be. The Emira ticks so many boxes for me - great looks, lightweight (in comparison to my turbo) and exciting. I was tempted to put a deposit down straight away but I’ll play it safe and wait for the reviews, maybe test driving one for myself.
Maybe in future. I love the looks but the drive train isn't that great IMO. A 2.0 four-cylinder turbo comparable to the Porsche F4 turbo but with no manual option, or for more money a V6 that isn't as special as the Porsche 4.0 and has a much worse auto transmission if you don't want a manual. The four-cylinder with DCT is probably the sensible choice of the current options and the one I would go for.

Interest registered Wednesday evening, polite call from nearest dealer Thursday morning. £2k deposit only required to secure a spot and dealer advising they've had more calls/interest/enquiries in 2 days than the last 12 months.
Not enough vehicles built at this stage to supply all dealers with a demo, so roadshows at dealers of existing builds are being scheduled.
I will certainly be considering it, subject to forming my own opinions. As another above stated, I hope its an incredibly successful vehicle for Lotus. As for the haters and naysayers, meh. Probably manic depressives. No offence to any manic depressives...

Will all depend on their build quality. Ive 'tried' to buy and Evora and found the quality laughable for the money asked. I've pretty much always had German cars, so it really came as a shock as I was expecting it to of moved on a lot since the 1st Elise.
They would have to move their game on a looooooooooong way with the Emira to tempt a lot of people from their Porsches. (I now have one!)
I think it looks great, however so did the Evora I was looking at.

Very much this. A close friend had an Evora for a couple of years - and it’s fair to say he’s on first name terms with most of his local low-loader drivers. They would have to move their game on a looooooooooong way with the Emira to tempt a lot of people from their Porsches. (I now have one!)

Let’s down a dynamically excellent brand.
I think in the UK I’ rather buy a used 540/570 and if buying new, I don’t really see how this will be better than the very well priced (in the UK) manual 6-cylinder Cayman/Boxster. Will be interesting to see how many they sell outside the UK, can’t remember when I last saw a Lotus on the road (do see some on track on occasion).
I wish them good luck, if they sell many of these then they will hopefully launch a few other models.

Would that be the handbuilt AMG 4 cylinder engine that sounds and performs wonderfully or the F4 scooby engine that sounds and performs like a tractor. Oh... then you have the Toyota V6 supercharged that sounds great, goes like stink and is reliable, or the 4.0 F6 with chocolate con rods being rebuilt at a dealership near you.Edited by 130R on Friday 9th July 14:51
