Hi,

I've just picked up a 996 TT and am wondering what fuel people use. Handbook says 98 ron preferred, but 95 ok. Does any one know how much of an impact regular unleaded has on performance etc?

Thanks

Optimax in the UK as it's the only 98 RON petrol available here. In 23k miles I have only used 97 RON fuel three times. I just wish Shell would bring the VPOWER 100 RON petrol to the UK like they have in Germany.

Not a turbo, but my GT3 gives much better economy on Optimax than normal unleaded (enough to offset the pump price), and even better on BP Ultimate (even though it has a lower octane rating than Optimax, the car must like the additives package better).

I use the BP 97 octane stuff. Mainly because there isn't a convenient Shell garage near to me.

If there was, I'd undoubtedly use Optimax

Another vote for Optimax here. Used it in my 993tt and now use it in my 996tt

I was at my local Sainsbury's petrol pump recently while the fuel was being delivered by tanker - tanker driver was wearing a BP uniform....
Although this doesn't necessarily mean it's BP fuel he was delivering!
My understanding is the fuel from the refineries may be the same, but the additives are different between the brands.
Anyone know for sure?

B.P. Grangemouth refinery supply all of fuel to tankers delivering to all of the outlets in the surrounding area, from the same refined holding tanks.
e.g. Asda, Esso, Shell, B.P., Tesco, etc etc.

Therefore I am certain that all refineries are the same.

You are correct in that the drivers will add certains additives to their tankers prior to offload at the Fuel station.
