2.4 S ENGINE WANTED OR A 2.7 210 BHP
Discussion
Matt, try Martin Harvey - 01992 462662 - he might have something - you may get hold of his son Neil. Transend can usually lay their hands on this sort of stuff too - haven't got their number handy but they advertise in Porsche Post.
Be aware that anything you buy may be totally shagged though and a 2.7 engine with 7R crankcases was rare enough when I tried to find one 16 years ago, let alone now!

Hi Ruby
Yeah I will give him a try, like you say they are getting rare with the 7R crankcases, any early engine in "S" form is getting hard to find..lots of the so called "S" engines that you buy rebuilt are actually built into "T" cases as the rebuilders cant get the correct ones..........
Clubsport.could put a 3.2 in, it isnt too hard to do, but I am trying for a "period" feel to the car, I am going to put it on Weber carbs for that old fashioned feel!!
The earlier engines are so much more freer revving than the later ones and sound superb - I can understand why Matt wants to stck with an early engine, Paul. But they are certainly more fragile than the later engines, as I know to my cost. ...and if you buy a tired one be prepared to repalce camshafts and bearings
Totally agree Ruby & defo understand PCDs idea- would love a 2.7 RS/impact 2.7 carrera lump in a lightweight project too.
The early cars have a howl & feel that a boggo 3.2 or even SC lump doesnt even get close to. In isolation both are fine sounding revvy engines, but compared to early cars- esp S & RS spec they are a bit uninspiring.
(Carrera 3.0 always felt to me a bit more revvy & alive than SC, tho not the toughest of powerplants)
964 & 993 lumps had IMHO a bit more of that early car free revvingness to them, which is a bit odd given the larger capacity & more torque, tho always worth considering the tad of extra weight- esp for a lightweight project car if going that route.
The thing I dont know however & have not experienced-maybe 9m does tho, is if some lairy cams in a 3.2 would give that revyness & early car feel, but keep the bullet proof 3.2 quailty as that could be a solution.
