89 3.2 125k.love it..whilst i know all the power is at high rpm is there anything one can do to improve response at lower engine speeds? without ruining it....I've heard of a chip but have been told by respected independent that they are a waste of time..any ideas?

Steve Wong gets my vote - had one fitted in my 3.2 CS for about a year now. See www.911chips.com/c1chips.html

I wasn't overwhelmed at first, but just had my AFM (AirFlow Meter) cleaned up by JAZ (at 72k miles) and i can really feel the difference now. Very happy!

I think at your cars mileage, your best to check everything is working as it should be. eg check hoses, check the fuelling (AFM etc), clean up electrical contacts/grounds.

First freshen the engine with a set of rings and valve guides.

With the stock exhaust and air flow meter, a 9m live remap will see around 240-245bhp.

For the best response and power, we convert to an Alpha-N mapping system (throttle potentiometer vs rpm metering) and bin the air flow meter completely. The last one we did came off our dyno at 248bhp & 310Nm(limited power output due to speed championship regulations, car ended up at JZ Machtech who doubted our claims and tested it themselves at 247bhp ).

With Motec and full sequential injection I have achieved 264bhp on a good 3.2 clubsport engine, this one with SSI exhaust.

Finally my own 3.2 had just ported cases and balanced bottom end. The heads and cams were stock and the engine was in perfect condition, the only other mod was a radical equal length header package. On Motec this engine made 271bhp & 326Nm and I still have the curves to prove it.

If you have the top end apart you could gain a little by fitting 964 cams, but ultimately the limiting factor are the intake manifolds, the ideal solution probably to fit the later 964 plastic intake and use the resonance flap to boost top end power. We have a single plug 3.5 converted 3.2 engine on Motec coming in soon for this mod, currently running at 275-280bhp, we are looking for 290-300.

Will that do for starters?
