Hi all,

I picked up a 2019 Panamera Turbo around 3 months ago and have covered 2k miles in that time, generally on long journeys. Compared with my previous generation Panameras I'm finding the ride quality and overall refinement disappointing (if anything, the engine is too refined but the rest of the package isn't!) and before I give up on the car and trade it in, I wondered whether swapping the 21" wheels for 20" would make a big difference. I can't find one with the smaller wheels to try but has anyone tried both wheel sizes? Do the 20" wheels make a big difference? My main gripe is the ride is far more bumpy than the last one and the road noise on anything other than new tarmac is too intrusive.

Thanks in anticipation.

Can’t help with Panny specifically but I’ve got a Cayenne which has 21 inch summer wheels and I think 19 inch winters. There is a decent difference but I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely massive !

I've owned a few Panameras and Cayennes on both 20'' and 21'' rims and IMO the 20'' give by far the best handling/ride balance. Same goes for the Taycan.

do not find a lot of difference- use the 20" for winter.

One big difference is that the 21"s are very easy to chip. I have had other cars for 15 years without a mark, but the tire wall is so shallow that there is zero wheel protection. Got a bad chip on one that he'd to be repainted.

Many thanks for sharing your experience - very few people can offer direct comparisons so the insight is really helpful.

Time to shop around again…
