Boxster S 986 2000 PCM

I have recently bought a 2000 986 Boxster S.
It’s fitted with sat nav/phone/cassette unit with CD changer in boot
Unfortunately there are no discs for the sat nav - how do I find discs that will work in this unit ?

Having bought one of these new I don’t think sat nav was an option in 2000 - so probably not OEM? What make is it? As above boxa.net is your best source for technical info on older models by far.

Thanks guys, it’s a genuine Porsche PCM factory fitted from new but I don’t have original CD Ron discs. I just want to keep the car original with everything working.

The Satnav will be an embarrassing PoS. Frankly, I wouldn't bother. I haven't used the Satnav in my 997 since the day I installed Waze on my 'phone.

If you must have Porsche originality, have you considered getting PCCM and keeping the original PCM? Or just going non-OEM and keeping the PCM to put back later?

Yes I take it back - just looked it up in my little hard back book of the model from back in the day. I think your issue will be that even if you could find the discs they’ll be way out of date so pretty useless. Even for the 981 I think the latest map edition is only 2018.

Hi, you need a Porsche pcm 1 cd, 8bit. 16 bit won’t work on your car these came later with an updated cd drive, the pcm head unit is identical. You can swap out the cd unit quite easily and upgrade to 16 bit. The maps will be slightly newer and load a little faster but you don’t get any additional functionality.
Check eBay if you can get a 16bit drive with cd and pin code for a good price I would recommend going down that route!

Whilst it would be nice to have it working it will be largely useless.

Our 2008 987 was hilarious. I don’t remember one of our local roads being built, but clearly it must have been around 2008 as it wasn’t in the sat nav.

The interface was horrific and it’s so laughable that allegedly these cars were worthless second hand if they didn’t have it
