Hi all,

I am looking to purchase a 964 towards the end of the year and really need some advice. What can I expect to pay for a cared for LHD 964?. This will be my main car and I'll be keeping my elise as a weekend toy, how comparible is it on reliabilty?
Looking to make quite a few european trips in it next year so LHD should be useful. Along with a few £k cheaper and it being in its designed positon, any negatives I should consider that are related to LHD and this particular model? I know about the overtaking and drivethrough problems of LHD but was thinking more of Porsche mechanical or Porsche fundamental differences. Also, how do future residual values compare to that of RHD?, do they fall comparative to each other? I am looking to move up the Porsche range in LHD terms anyway so it should not be a particular hardship, just though I'd ask.

Thanks for reading, counting the weeks.

A.

I think they can be over priced. My friend has just got a RHD tip 1993K with air con and 75K miles for £15,000 which I feel is about right. I looked at a few on his behalf and they were all dogs.

Watch out for oil leaks.

Search this forum for ownership experiences etc. You'd be amazed how often 'what's this car like to own?' crops up and how many posts have already been made.

Secondly, log onto www.porsche964.co.uk There's a lot of discussion, pics, reviews, knowledge on there as well.

Thirdly, the 964 was designed LHD originally, not RHD, so if anything they have a better driving position etc. There are plenty of them here as well, so the residuals are strong, but still 20% behind RHD. Yes, they fall roughly similarly to each other, with maybe LHD having the advantage as not such a large fall. A good one will still cost you 11.5k upwards LHD (same as a few years back really, so don't depreciate much). I'd be wary of spending less.

A bit of a bargain at the moment as 3.2 values have hardened to neck and neck levels and I'd still plump for a 964 C2 over one, even for a few grand more. The 964 isn't as good as the 993 mechanically but has a tad more character. They're good, just get a C2 coupe and you'll be happy, although I didn't mind the C4 at all. Just avoid targas and cabrios (sorry chaps if you have one!).

Oh, and save for an RS

£13k-£14k was my initial figure for a nice LHD 964.

I don't know if it just me, but sellers really do seem to like pricing up these 3.2's and 964's. Some of them may be well kept, but alot of these sellers are asking a little too much IMHO.

For me, it has to be a coupe. I already have a soft top in the garage.
