924 - POR729/MAM126X history check
Discussion
I’ve always been tempted by a 924 and have been keeping an eye on the market. One popped up on auto trader, it’s punchy money £16k, but get past that price and it looks nice on paper, with only 48k miles, so I did a bit of digging.

I've taken this information from public websites, so in that regard I cannot vouch for the information. However given I went to the trouble to background check this, I thought it would be fair to share the history I found over the years.
It was sold back by auction in 2016 for £1,600. With 148k mile on the clock. It had been to exported to Ireland and back. As a bit of a breaker, parts had started to be removed and sold, the rear arches had been riveted on – but it had apparently been dry stored which the photos, complete with dust seems to back up! http://automotoclassicsale.com/node/31076

It was then at auction October 2018 with the arch rivets presumably filled and smoothed over – with quotes of what the ‘Carrera GT’ body kit cost – they were able to pin this to the exact pound coin (despite the bonnet scoop being fitted much later as the photos show).

It was then at auction seemingly misrepresented as a car ‘with only 48k miles’ in May 2021 – no one decided to mention it had already been around the clock at least once, but still not turning its wheels much since 2016.

It's a shame - to me this looks like a nice car and might well be nice underneath too. However I cannot bring myself to approach a car with hidden history. Is it worth all the money of a 48k mile minter when it’s actually done 100k more than that – that will be down to the buyer; but best to go in with eyes open…..

Bravo for doing the proper research, shame the lack of MOT history doesn't help trying to trace the history. Shocking that someone like The Market would sell it as a low miles car. Not quite as shocking as the £1600 it sold for previously!
Thanks. It seems a bit of a scandal in itself that taking a car to Ireland and back can wipe out its previously held history. To give the benefit of doubt, the seller might not even know this. It states the car comes with 'sadly no history'- e.g. you make that old paperwork disappear and then the last 'true’ recorded mileage of the car is gone...Just came across this thread. I Won this car for 15800 on Carandclassic online auction and paid into the secure account prior to collection It was until I was after the auction that I stubbled across that website in the opening thread and I called car and classic straight away. They tried to tell me It wasn't the right car but he clearly hadn't scrolled down and read the add! the car and classic auction add even had the same picture wearing the other plate in the add I saw in the paperwork. he quickly agreed and sent my money back to me and took the add down.. However what got me looking and subsequently finding this thread (i 'won' this car in July 2021) is that these guys have been stung and are now raffling it away... stating 48k miles.. I'm about to contact them now to advise them and to go get a refund from the seller.

IF It's advertised as 924 Turbo restored etc with 148k miles then ok but It's clearly had new interior paintwork etc (not bad thing. I even found that the owner that was selling it to me had owned it 2 years without MOT it having never driven it and brought it from CoPart!! I found the advert after I did a HPI check..

What did Classic Giveaways say? I wouldn’t go presuming CG are innocent in this. The raffle is still going with no amended mileage. TGE, the guy in the video, is the worst smoke n mirrors merchant on You Tube.https://www.youtube.com/redirect?event=video_descr...

Hi Mark Yeah It's me,
Well I contacted them by email just as a friendly heads up. No reply!!
As for being a typo honestly I very much doubt It. 2/3 websites and the overall condition of It from one of the websites would suggest otherwise. and 2 of the websites are fairly well known auction houses. Its been round the clock I think!.
It looks lovely now I won't deny, I can say this as I briefly parted with lots of my hard earned! but buying trade or by gambling for It surely It has to be looked into.. It doesn't bother me and won't loose sleep over It I just felt compelled to sharing my/and others findings on this example.
Car and Classics auction agreed with my findings and gave my money back within an hour of letting them know so they wouldn't want to give up on what was hours of work compiling an advert and visiting for pictures etc to just let me talk them out of my purchase. They where shocked and annoyed at the findings. Its just a car at the end of the day!! but CC Auctions couldn't say no to a refund on this one. cars get restored and done nicely like this is I'm sure but Its not original nor is it 48k miles.

You tuber TGE is flogging this with his famous raffle.
Latest video says how wonderful the car is and better than new from factory but strangely no mention of the extra 100,000 miles.
The psychedelic interior is enough to make you puke.
His previous porsche "giveaway" aka as make a big buck quick was a 944 turbo that Jayemm won and that was another lemon of a car.
Obviously must be a way of flaunting any consumer rights and selling cheap dodgy cars for a massive profit tax free no doubt

Pasha interior is dead cool - particularly when in a 928. Very period Latest video says how wonderful the car is and better than new from factory but strangely no mention of the extra 100,000 miles.

Never seen it in a 924 though.
