What do folks think about this - be concerned or not a problem :

I'm late stage into buying a 2019 Cayman, but have found out that the car has been wrapped, then unwrapped both in the past 6 months, so back to factory colour at this point. However, I know that the firm that did the wrap/unwrap has removed not just the bumpers but had both doors off, side windows out etc. The fit is not brilliant on one side bumper but the dealer assures me it just needs a bit of adjustment and its perfectly normal/nothing to worry about.

I can't help thinking I want the car set as it left the factory, but am I being unrealistic and this shouldn't be seen as a problem ?

You're buying a used car, so it will have a history.

If you don't like the history, walk away and find another.

It shouldnt be a problem but I'd want every panel gap near on perfect before forwarding any funds beyond a fully returnable deposit, I'd also be going through the cars paint with a fine tooth comb in case the reason the wrap was removed was a knock on that corner. easier to unwrap and repair than repair and rewrap.

Decided to pull out of the deal. There’s enough of what I’m looking for around to wait and get one I’m truly happy with

Definately the right move. Whenever I see Yiannimize stripping new, high end cars of doors etc I always wonder if they refit everything back to factory tolerances. What would happen with warranty claims too ?

Yeah exactly. I actually had no idea applying a wrap was so intrusive tbh… it may well be ok but when you know a cars been thru this, for the dosh we’re talking about here, there’s others you can focus in on. Provenance is everything with these cars as experience always dictates….

My very first job as an undergraduate manufacturing engineering trainee, involved what we called the Sellotape test.
On rather an ISO standard for testing paint and printing adhesion.

We used it to test the printing on the side of battery boxes, and if there was adherence issues the Sellotape test would rip it off.

Applying anything adhesive to paint gives me the fear. When you come to remove it, any thing other than perfect paint will come off.
