Sound: 996 C$S v 996 TT
Discussion
IMHO the standard 996TT at full pelt sounds perfect - engineered & potent but not in your face – fairly loud too. Sports exhaust not for me. I heard then saw a black 996TT (DMS tuned) on Northcote Rd in Battersea once - heard it 1/3 of a mile off – defeats the relative discretion of a Porsche, less showy than a Ferrari.
I moved from a C4S to a turbo about a year ago.
Can't say I miss the sound of the 4S....too busy holding on for dear life to worry about that !
Having said that I would like my Turbo to be a bit throatier without being OTT so interested in the above remark about the DMS exhaust (if it was a DMS exhaust) car being too loud, I was under the impression it wasn't too loud....anyone here got one?

For road use, very little will deliver the almost complete hit of a freshly plucked, blown oinker.
Like Von Modhauer am say, most of the aftermarket jobbies compliment the experience quite necessarily and the resulting blend is in the region of supreme.
I've developed this new habit of diving with even more psychosis than usual at corners and frankly mullering the brakes and actually worrying myself as the chatter-slip-skid-chatter somehow keeps things straightish before baiting the pendulicity and hammering to port or stern.
Given this nation's present condition, it is one of right thinking man's surviving catharses.

.
sometimes the chatter-slip-skid-chatter turns into a chatter-slip - slip- ohsshitemaster-crash-bang-wallop-ouch-mummy-ambulance-police-insurance-stupidlearntmylesson.
Take it easy with the car, it may be a supercar but its not a SUPERCAR, nor is it indistructable or has neverending grip.
which I learnt the hard way with mu first 996tt
Always wondered why Porsche didn't offer a sports exhaust option for the turbo like they do for the n/a cars - not like them to miss an opportunity to fleece their customers with expensive options
OPC just tell me "they decided it didn't need one" but I wonder whether they had a technical reason? tubi, RUF, DMS etc don't seem to have had any problem developing one
