Hi all - I have been posting and replying to comments about my, new to me, 987.1 base Cayman.

I have been quoted £580 vat inclusive for Goodyear Eagle F1 rubber - please advise.

Michelin pilot sports work well on the 987 and last pretty well on both road and track. Whatever you do, don't be tempted by the new Bridgestone potenza sports - they're rubbish and literally fall apart

I ran the Michelins (as posted above) and then Continental ContiSports on my 987.2.

Both good options, wouldn’t really say I could tell a massive difference on the morning commute. Both were N-rated (Porsche OEM rating), but not always an indicator of quality given the development in tyre tech since.

Can’t comment on the Goodyears. I assume you’re on the 17in wheel? One of the benefits is keener pricing. Your quoted price for a full set of new tyres is fair!

I'll be in the market for some GY Eagle F1 Assymetrics myself in the New Year, as my 987.1 Boxster on 17" wheels has got 10 year old fronts and 8 year old rears!

I don't think there are any premium sports tyres available any more in the oem 17" sizes except the N-rated tyres. So, the choice seems to be Conti Sport Contact 3 (difficult to find now, but it seems every now and then a batch is manufactured and appears for sale if you check some of the online vendors; usually unavailable, though), Michelin Pilot Sport 2 (expensive but well liked, and apparently seem to last) and Goodyear which seems the most widely available and the most keenly priced. I'll be going the Goodyear direction myself, because after asking around they apparently have a slightly softer sidewall, and are therefore slightly softer riding. My car is a daily and I'm never going to track it, so I prioritise ride quality.

Prices? I noticed a while ago, F1 Autocentres had some sort of deal on, and two 235/50 17 and two 205/55 17 came in at just over £450ish inc VAT and fitting. So, worth waiting till one of the big boys does a special offer as it can really make a difference.

Edit: F1 Autocentres are still coming in at just under £500 for all four, inc VAT and fitting. Blackcircles are also around £500 inc.
