992 Turbo S - PSE vs Stock
Discussion
I finally got my 992 Turbo S allocation and am deciding between the performance exhaust or stock exhaust. I have been a huge fan of the dual sports exhaust for some time, but now that it is seen on almost every 991, it feels a lot less exclusive and has lost the 'wow factor' for me. As such, I am leaning back towards the stock exhaust as it is different. I do however have the stock exhaust on my 991.1 Turbo S and the sound is extremely underwhelming...
I would be keen to know if anyone has compared the 992 stock exhaust with the 991? Furthermore, I read that it's possible for the main dealer to program the stock exhaust to have a valve open option anyway?
Many thanks.

The later particulate filter-equipped cars are decidedly quieter than the theatrics from the 991 turbo S - especially the latter in SPORT/SPORT PLUS modes.
Opting for the factory set-up is the choice to get a bit closer to the early cars character.
After market is the only way to get proper noise from the cars - but the turbo engine will never be tuneful......

This has already been covered in depth on a previous thread if you want to search.
No doubt the stock exhaust twin pipes look far better than the drainpipe single pse without the huge cost too and evidently there is little difference in sound.
Yes, I have read a lot on people's opinions on the look, but struggling to find concrete answers around Porsche being able to open the valves on the stock exhaust, and add a 'software' option to control this. My Porsche dealer seemed rather dumbfounded so keen to find out if anybody has further info.No doubt the stock exhaust twin pipes look far better than the drainpipe single pse without the huge cost too and evidently there is little difference in sound.

Don't you buy a sports exhaust because you prefer the sound rather than how it makes others see you...?
That's an exceptionally naive comment to make. IME the PSE is primarily to do with the way the car sounds. Every single 911 could have it, and as long as it makes the car sound better (moot if everyone had it I know), I wouldn't care.
Maybe it's the exhaust tips you're concerned about? But what next on the car? Do you have it in a unique colour and refuse to have it in a colour you love just because someone else might have it?
A friend of mine once wore a dress to a party and binned it when she got home as someone else had the same one on.
I could perhaps have naivety thrown at me if one thinks I do not understand that there are plenty of people who do things solely for the "flash"...except I'm aware of it. I just think it's a bit sad. But each to their own

(My 911 has the PSE option. Sounds lovely, and the std car a little disappointing without some form of sports exhaust. The exhaust tips are nice enough too, but always dirty so they're not much of a concern

You talked about the PSE option being "exclusive" (or more specifically, less exclusive now that everyone has it) and how it diminishes the "wow factor".

Indeed, I am sure there are plenty of people that buy for the "flash", however, I buy for me and nobody else. Just because something is purchased for being exclusive and having the 'wow' factor, does not mean it's being bought for external opinion. I know several art collectors with incredibly exclusive and rare works of art that sit in their safes. These collectors get incredible pleasure enjoying the artwork in their own private home, in the full knowledge that very few people know they own something one-of-a-kind. They are the opposite of flash.IME the PSE is primarily to do with the way the car sounds. Fair comments about the sound - I am sure it is much nicer and I would love that, but I really have gone off the visuals of the tailpipes. I guess it's a decision between aesthetics (for me) vs sound (for me)controlz said:

There are a few of these on the Porsche GT threads but their artwork/garage queens are kept in the garage.controlz said:

I hope people don't buy rare works of art just because nobody else can have one, but am sure there are some. They are, hopefully, buying them because they excel at what they are for (objects to look at in this instance).
An exhaust isn't really that (though there are some from motor racing that I would happily have on the wall - my OH less so). If the std offering didn't make the car sound as I wanted, and better was available, I'd buy it (only car I've had that had a factory standard exhaust was a Maserati GT).
The problem with turbo cars is that they lose some of the raw sound, and the more modern the engine, the more they get strangled. The days of great sounding but, possibly (
), antisocial engine noises are gone I suspect.I agonised on whether to go for the standard 992 Turbo S exhaust or the Sports exhaust. Previously had a 991.2 Turbo S and loved the look of the quad pipes but was less than enamoured with the sound.
In the end I went for the Sports exhaust and while it sounds great at full chat I still prefer the look of the standard pipes. From what I understand you'd have to go after market to get a decent sound out of the standard quad pipes.
All academic for me now as I managed to get a GT3 and that sounds absolutely fantastic
