Vodafone Tracker
Discussion
Hi All
Hopefully due to get my new car next month, and know that they'll offer me the Vodafone tracker
How much is the subscription to this? Is there an initial joining fee and then a yearly subscription? My insurance say that I need to have it to be insured
Thanks in advance for any advice, my OPC is sick of me asking questions lol

I went for the Vodafone tracker first time round on my Taycan - they make it easy as the fobs come in the glove compartment and you only have to go online to activate it.
I've been out without the fob numerous times and never had a call, the only time I had a call to check the car was OK was when I took it on a ferry.
This time I went for Meta Trak Deadlock which is much easier as you get a key fob rather than a large ugly brick thing that needs to go in your pocket, I keep it on my house keys which are separate from my car keys. The car won't even start if you don't have the fob but you can use an app on your phone if you have forgotten it. The features seem much better, the app is OK and you can use a web browser. Tracks every journey, ignition on and off times etc.
From memory it was around £500 to have installed with 1st year free subscription then £150pa thereafter. I didn't rate the Vodafone service but I may have just been unlucky.

I've got the Vodafone unit in my 720. It wasn't recognising the tags to start with, and I got a call every time I moved the car. Called them to resync the tags and since then all is well; good and responsive customer service in my experience. The tags are like fat credit cards (they have an internal CR2032) - the Global Telemetrics (SmarTrack) ones I have on my RS are genuinely credit card sized (rechargeable li-polymer battery) and from that perspective perhaps a better choice but I have yet to use the car since getting the system installed so can't comment on efficacy.
Thanks for the comments all, much appreciated
Shame to see so many people having issues with the Vodafone trackers, I've never heard of issues from people I know that have them, but clearly its happening to quite a few people, so knowing my luck will also happen to me!
My Father had the Vodafone tracker on his old RS6, and apart from sometimes being called when driving saying someone had nicked his car, even though he had the fob on him, never had any other issues some are reporting!
