The sound of a Lada door shutting...
Discussion
Picture the scene - Me and the girlfriend zooming through the twisty country lanes on a sunny afternoon in the 993. Glorious flat 6 barking behind us and sublime handling through every corner. We arrive at our destination, hop out of the car and shut the door which sounds like a cheap Lada!!
Is it just mine or do all 993 doors sound like cheap russian motors?
If this is a general shortfall can it be fixed?
I am tired of friends getting out of the car with a big smile after a ride and then apologising when they close the door, as if they have broken it.

That may be the problem then.
They never sound as solid and with a 'thunk' as my BM doors.
Thanks for the advice
There is your problem - or not. The 'thunk' on BMW, VW etc happens because there is a thick rubber sealing strip around the door. It not due to engineering! The 993 has it right, sealing strip but also well engineered catch mechaism which you can hear.
I personally hate the 'thunk' on modern cars, it sounds cheap to me and a cover up for cheap door locks/catches.
993 sounds MUCH nicer IMHO.

If that is how it is supposed to sound due to the way it is engineered I will happily live with it.
Never ceases to amaze me what a quality product the 993 is. I thought I had found it's achilles heal with the door and it turns out that is just better engineering than normal cars as well.
