Well back in the day i had a superb boxster 2.5 but then came love and marriage and kids ect so the car went and the estate came but now im finding im longing to scratch that itch again this time stepping it up with a 911 - and i can also fit the kids in for sunday trips. im guessing my budget is around 20-25k and it won't be a daily driver at all just a place to put some savings away and enjoy from time to time. im drawn to the 997 but put off by stories of ims and bore scorings (which seems to be the "new ims" and now i worry that cylinder liners on 997 have a fairly short life expectancy ? some say bore scoring happens with all engins and its only time theres say some will and will not be effected? id imagineer id be putting a 2-3k on per year it really would only be for fun ? what's peoples thoughts ?

Don't discount the 996.

Will leave you with more of a £££ War Chest as with Porsche's of this age you will need it.

If you didn't need rear seats I'd have said 987.2 Cayman as no IMS and general bore score issues.

Thanks Andy, tbh I should have had the 996 back when I got the Boxster but the cab is similar and I’m looking to move foward. They are great cars but I’m really drawn to the 7

You'll get a 997.1S for your budget and TBH it's what I'd buy too.

Their prices went up last year and have softened now again.

Just go in with eyes open about ongoing costs.
