944 immobiliser

I have the CAT 2 Porsche immobiliser that requires a flat spade type key to be inserted into a slot located adjacent to the ignition key / lock.
During the process this action can often take 2,3 or even 4 attempts before successfully achieving deactivation.
After only 2.5 years ownership, I discovered at the weekend that if of instead of reinserting the key, I simply held the key firmly in the slot and waited, the deactivation beeps took place on the next cycle.
It works for me, just a short wait and patience required.
+ the above procedure will also cause less wear over time.

the immobiliser control unit is often sited under the floorpan and does frequently suffer from corrosion. Used to have exactly the same problem on my old 944. if you wear a tie to work then the solution is easy - just rub the key tines up and down a few times with your tie. i think it must generate a static charge to get the signal round the corroded circuit. who knows. anyway, worked for me.
oh, by the way, works best with 100% silk ties (naturally)
