I've been offered a reasonable deal on a used Cayenne Turbo and was wondering if anyone could give me any idea on running costs.

I currently run an X5 4.6is which returns about 18mpg, is the Cayenne likely to be much worse than this?

Any guidance on servicing and tyre life would be very much appreciated too.

Cheers guys

I had a Cayenne S for about 3 weeks and that gave me 11/14 mpg around town, and 18/20 mpg on a motorway run...

The Turbo is considerably more thirsty than the 4.5 V8 Cayenne S. You will do well to keep it in double figures! Depending on driving style and usage the V8 S should return 18 - 20.

I was shocked at the fuel consumption of an S that I had for a few days recently, even the lady handing it over at the OPC said to me "don't be shocked - it really does drink that much fuel" !!
My daily drive is a 996 TT too so I am used to filling up a lot.
I would expect a Cayenne Turbo's fuel consumption will make your eyes water.

sorry, no actual idea of Turbo, but i commute twelve miles in the "S" every day,my trip computer shows 12 mpg if you are stuck in London traffic! Averages at about 16mpg, no better than 22 mpg at 75mph on a run. obviously aircon is also drinking its share this time of year.

not had a service yet, but its a 2 year interval, and the OPC quoted £450 for mine

btw doesnt seem too bad on tyres?

The money your likely to part with for a Cayenne Turbo - should fuel consumption matter?
Buy a diesel instead!

Having been in one recently, all I can say is loose an organ if necessary - I reckon this is one of the ultimate real world vehicles, despite the appalling rap it gets.

Can't see it being any worse than any of the other sumo jobs knocking around: V8 Range Rovers, Conti GTs, AMG Mercs, etc, etc...

Hi there, a chap at the office runs one of these... he told me about 12mpg is about right... gets a little worse when having fun... gets a little better about 16mpg on a normal run. He loves the car but the economy is appaling... but he thinks it is worth it...

Roshambo what sort of mpg are you getting out of your 996tt?

excuse me putting-in my oar, but my 996tt is good for about 21-23 mpg dependant upon the way you drive

Cheers for the replies guys, you've confirmed my worst fears about the fuel consumption!

Would dearly love one but single figure (or 12mpg for that matter) fuel consumption would be too hard to justify.

Intersting that a 996 Turbo does over 20 mpg, might have to rethink my options...

I must say I really like the Cayenne, and when the Mini is due to go in 12 months I thing it will be top of the list.
Well this week anyway

Having driven them all (owned a 4.6is for two years and driven several thousand miles in a Cayenne TT) I would choose my current steed - a 4.8is. It really is much, much better than the 4.6is and sounds like a proper muscle car. The TT is quicker but only driven flat out (and that's not how you drive an SUV, whether you'd like to or not). The 4.8is gets a few mpg 'better' than the 4.6is which means an average of 18-19mpg in varied use and a cruising economy of 21-23mpg (it never seems to fall below 16mpg). It's much more effortless to drive than the 4.6is with lots of low down torque and pulls more strongly than the TT until it's turbos get going. For the sound it makes, the way it handles and the far better steering feel (than the Cayenne) the 4.8is offers the best value, but perhaps you're bored of X5s which is a perfectly valid reason for a change.

..small word of warning from an insider passed to me last weekend, Cayenne used prices about to slide; September PX's and shear over supply have meant several dealers making losses on the used examples. Once the Guides pick this up next month the prices will tumble. Seems there is enough demand for new though....for now.
