Hi,

I am considering a new SUV for early next year, and was surprised to see the pricing on the configurator. Can anyone help with the following:

1. Why / how is the entry level Cayenne cheaper than the entry level Macan?

2. The Cayenee E-Hybrid is almost 40% cheaper than the base standard Cayenne. What is the main difference and why is there such a difference in the pricing.

3. Any recommendations on which model Cayenne to go for, given that there is now 19 models to choose from :-)

Thanks for your help.

Simon

Bio idea on Macan/Cayenne oricibg but recently took delivery of a new Cayenne GTS which isuperb. Does not have the shattering performance of the turbo but is more than enough for an SUV.

I had a Hybrid Cayenne and found it useless. Once you have heating etc. on I found the range pathetic.

Pricing seems odd to me. I checked our Canadian Porsche website and the Macan starts at about $61k for the base car compared to $82k for the base Cayenne. Is there an error on the website in the UK?

The cayenne starts at £63700, the Macan at £50800 when I look at the site for the UK.

1) Cayenne definitely not cheaper, it’s also a question of 3 litre in the Cayenne and 2 litre in the Macan. Base Macan is £50,800 and base Cayenne is £63,700.

2) comparing like for like in terms of model years, E Hybrids tend to go for more than the base Cayenne.

3) we’ve had a base Cayenne for 3 years / 20k miles and that works well enough for us. Some criticise it for a lack of performance but that’s not something I’ve ever really been bothered by. It’s more of a cruiser in my eyes and I don’t like cornering particularly hard in hefty SUVs.

I think it's a simple matter that Macan is a better vehicle and commands good prices in the used market. Just because Cayenne is a bigger/more expensive vehicle doesn't mean everybody wants one. Put two side by side and I'd take the Macan every time.

I don't quite see this... Macan is from £50,800 and Cayenne is from £63,700?

Thanks all... it must be only in Ireland, as our Government charges higher rates of tax on cars that have higher emissions.

As you will see below... the Cayenne E Hybrid is much cheaper than the standard Cayenne... and the Cayenne E Hybrid is even cheaper than the base Macan.

It looks as though there are significant tax benefits to hybrids over there. Not sure what the differences are but I’m fairly certain that’s the reason.

Base price of the Macan in the US is about half of Ireland. The Cayenne is $72k for base. (Both plus local tax)

Comes down to space for most, the difference is vast.

Yes, cars are VERY expensive in Ireland. I’ve included some prices below, from experience, and other friends in Ireland. It’s all we ever talk about :-)

All new prices, and standard specs.

Porsche 911 992 Carrera S: €230,000

Lamborghini Huracan EVO: €490,000

Ferrari 812 Superfast: €680,000

G63: €360,000

Cayenne e-hybrid also cheaper than base in Holland. It’s all down to tax reduction for electric/hybrid cars.

The hybrid is imho a much better car than the base model, it’s better equipped and the range is genuinely useful. We’ve had one for a year or more now and it’s been great.

Would you not be better off buying the car in Northern Ireland and then transferring the registration? Just a thought, I may well have missed the obvious reason as to why not!

Just keep it on UK plates or you’ll have to pay their insane vehicle registration tax.

Jeez, for 911 upwards maybe one could buy a little terrace house in Liverpool for £20,000 and use as the address for the car’s home. Or somewhere for £100k and still get a free property!

(I have no idea what the anti avoidance measures are that probably prevent doing this)
