Morning,

I’ve recently had some minor random electrical gremlins on my 991.1 911CS and traced it to a discharged battery.
Checked this morning and it’s at 11.9V after a run yesterday so guess a replacement would be due.
I will Ctek it later just to be sure though.
Do I need to replace it with a Porsche branded one or can I just dump a Silver Bosch/Varta in its place?
Is there any coding required?

Many thanks

Porsche used/extended warranty - it will need to be 'genuine'
No warranty from Porsche - fit whatever you want. If you have stop/start the new battery will likely need 'coding' to the car.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
It has stop/start but I have read opinions varying from ‘coding is essential’ to ‘don’t bother’ as it’ll learn the battery is new over the next 6 hours of driving. confused
I coded my Audi S4 battery myself but don’t have access to the Porsche software and am not convinced it was necessary.
I guess I’ll give the stealers a call in the morning to see how much they charge which will probably make my mind up for me.

Thanks again.

Give Tayna Batteries a go.
Just replaced the battery on my 997 for a second time, and a new shiny Bosch S5-110 85AH was only about £2 dearer than it was five years ago at £103 delivered.

That’s exactly what I’m about to do but thanks for the advice.
I’ve found an identical Banner AGM replacement albeit without the Porsche logo/markup for £150.

It's a pretty easy job to do, whatever battery you put in.

Just make sure you have someone to help you and a piece of wood so both of you can lift the battery up towards where it goes - it's too difficult to reach in on your own (well unless you have unbelievably strong arms and a very strong back)!

Plug the CTEK in before you start, this will hold the cars electrics up while you swap the battery and should mean you dont need anything recoded or reset. Did my 991 Turbo earlier this year - I think it took 30 minutes altogether.
