The "obtanium" Purchases Thread
Discussion
Obviously everything is obtainable in the Porsche world...at a price.
We all know new GT3s and the like are for the chosen few but having spec'd a couple on the Porsche website I'd question whether I would buy at the sort of prices they now ask.
So what can be purchased?
A lightly used 991.2 911T for example? Four years old it may be but with less than 15k miles how bad can it be?
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202210311...
That's got to be a what, £20k saving on a new one?
How about a two year old 718 GT4 if you can do with two seats?
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202210311...
Bucket seats and fancy stitching and available tomorrow-at a good chunk less than a new order.
Even 4.0, alright folk may think are a bit steep to what they were originally sold for but you wouldn't get a brand new one spec'd like this at that price;

Too expensive?

A true classic 911 GT3 for £50k less.
I walked into our local Porsche dealership, no chance of a new build slot of course, plenty of cars with asking prices tens of thousands of pounds over the retail price but actually, the more you look the more you see plenty of places to put your money.

Good thread - I really want to buy a 911 early next year. I think 991 GTS prices have come down a bit in recent months. I'm a regular Autotrader checker for 911 up to ten years old.
I went to see this 2013 991S about a month ago - gorgeous car in the flesh, right spec for me (really want a sunroof due to my 987 Boxster experiences) nice guys at the dealer. £63k, but maybe some wiggle room.

But also only 3 seats. Unlike the folding buckets of the 997 and 991, the 992 buckets automatically mean the rear seats get deleted as you can’t access them (and crucially can’t get out in case of an accident).

Indeed- plenty of cars out there…… the dealers don’t give anything away though- the 718 GT4 listed above at £82k has steel brakes and a manual transmission so I assume this has been taken into account
As mine would be spec'd from factory-only at a retail now of £93k (I think I got to).Fortunately I've never really desired a GT car but definitely wanted to get another F6 Boxster when they announced the updated 718 GTS 4.0 as I thought it was likely to be the last N/A F6 sports car Porsche would make.
Then while waiting for our GTS we heard about the 25 Year Edition and asked if we could have one of those fully expecting to be told no. Surprisingly we got offered one of the 2 our OPC were allocated and were told there were more than 25 people on the waiting list. The car was delivered in October 21 and we've thoroughly enjoyed nearly 11k miles in it.
I've no intention of selling it but do occasionally check what similar cars are selling for. About a year ago they were being advertised for around £100k and gradually dropped to low to mid £90s as more cars were delivered. A friend bought a delivery miles car for £10k over list in spring this year and is pleased as punch with it and I know someone else that bought one in the summer for a similar premium. There are currently 6 for sale at OPCs all for around £80k which is roughly what a sensibly spec'd car would have cost new since the standard spec was pretty comprehensive.
I suspect prices will fall further and those that buy them will get something quite special. Yes it's almost identical to a GTS mechanically but without the overtly sporting overtones which for me has an appeal all of its own. I wonder how many of those 25 plus people on the waiting list nearly 2 years ago would buy one now

in 2010 I bought a 2001 996 with some 35k miles for £22k from a respected Indy. Great car.
So a well sorted 9 year old 'vanilla' 911 for £22k.
Looks like a well sorted 9 year old 'vanilla' 911 is now £63k?
that's some inflation ...
