Just picked up a boxster 2.5 today, and drove it home from the garage just fine. Two hours later, gone out to nip to the shope and for some reason the car thinks its in reverse ! (Tiptronic Model with dashboard indicator lit up under reverse). As the car thinks its in reverse I'm unable to start the engine ....grrrr.

Any ideas on how to convince the car it really is in Park....or failing that any suggestions for a porsche specialist local to Beaconsfield, Bucks who might be able to fix it.....asap !

Cheers, and thanks for any help.

Its a Boxster, maybe someone let it see a mirror and its genuinely confused.

sorry, coat, off we go.

Try battery off, leave for 10 mins, and see if that reboots the electronics enough to wing it into the garage...

Hi,

I had the same issue when I first picked up my '99 Tip S. It turned out that the linkage was 'Gunked Up'. So much so that the microswitch which governs the neutral switch etc. would not energize. You can try 'slamming' the lever from Reverse to Park to get it to engage. When I say Slam, I don't mean to go all AHHHNOLD on it, but push it into Park with some authority. It may take several attemps.

A Dealer Service is in order to clean up and adjust the linkage. I think mine cost about $75, which the PO paid for. The Tech said he's seen this primarily in cars which don't get much regular use. The issue has never returned. Hope this helps...

Happy Motoring!... Jim'99

Thanks for this...the car is in the garage at the moment but they are stuck as to what to do. I've passed on your comments to them and asked them to give it ago.

My car also hasnt been used regularly so it sounds very similar to your situation.

Thanks very much for the tip...and fingers crossed.

I'll let you know if it works!
