will confirm make and year of a car

but an enquiry with DVLA
might be more use

Did you contact the DVLA site,
I'm told, (although I haven't tried)
that they can be helpful, for a small fee.

The /RAC
confirms what you already know, perhaps the PCGB register might help.

Hello tried DVLA, no go just got details of when the V5 was last changed and when the tax is due etc.
The owner is not on the PCGB club list either.

So looks like the search goes on may get lucky.

Thanks for your advice and help any more ideas please let me know.
