996+GT3 Aerokits - where are they?
Discussion
After 6 months of researching and scooping up the pennies, I have now decided to take the plunge and buy my first 996. The only problem is that I am trying to land a 1999-2001 Silver 996 with GT3 aerokit. After having seen at least a dozen over the last 6 months, its typical that when you make the decision to go for it, there aren't any around. I've seen a cracking facelift model at Paragon but its that extra 8K that is causing problems with the other lady in my life, the wife.
Any pointers or potential 996's arriving on the market (trade) would be greatly received.

www.pistonheads.com/sales/48132.htm any good?
That's exactly what I am looking for. Just to be picky - mileage might be a bit high but will give them a call. Anyone dealt with Nick Whale before?

Thats not the GT3 aerokit.
Also I am under the impression that OPC warranty was voided if the car goes through any dealer. That includes OPCs, but they have to buy & supply a new one when they sell a used car.
Cheers Dan - looks like the warranty finished in July 2005 anyway. With regards to the aerokit, is it just the rear carrera spolier that is different to a GT3 aerokit?
I had a 2nd hand T plate 996 C2 with GT3 aerokit - fantastic car (my first 911 as well).
The aerokit comprises a different, deeper front spoiler with splitter, and the double aerofoil, adjustable rear spoiler.
This was a £4k+ option from new.
The car in the PH advert has the Carrera bodykit.
The GT3 kit offers genuine aerodynamic advantages - reduced lift at the front, and downforce at the rear.
Good luck with the search.

why do people put a gt3 badge on these cars???
I would be less embarassed travelling by bus than in a mock GT3.

I don't object to the bodykit really, put putting the badge on is a step too far. Its like driving in a 318 with an m3 badge stuck on and some 'phat' alloys.
quite. i can see why someone might like the look of the kit (personally it's not for me) but putting on the badge too is lame. Do OPCs stick the fake badge on for you?
agree - I have a 27k miles 2000W plate GT3 kitted carrera 2 - with a simnple carrera badge on the back.
and I like it lots.
Keep looking until you find the right one.
You could of course buy a 'normal' one and fit the kit yourself?? Only needs spraying up and bolting on - dead easy.
Cheers

I don't think anyone has mentioned they intended sticking a fake badge on have they ? That would indeed be naff in the extreme. As for fitting a GT3 aerokit to a carrera, don't have any problem with that. Each to their own. The aerokitted car looks excellent but I'm sure it's not done to try & fool anyone surely. More a question that the owner just prefers the look of the aerokitted car.
Anyone recognising the bodykit as a GT3, would also realise that it's not actually a GT3.
As for Nick Whale, his company owns many franchised dealers throughout the midlands covering most makes/marques etc. Only ever met him once & he seemed a fairly genuine sort of person.

The silver car linked by Dazren has a fake GT3 badge, hence the debate.
Bruce - I can't see how adding on a GT3 kit would be economic compared to getting the right car in the first place.

Guys,
Thanks for the debate, some interesting views. I prefer a GT3 kit on a C2/C4 996 (excluding the badge!)not because I am a chav but i think it brings the car alive a bit - to be honest without some form of carrera or GT3 kit, i think a 996 looks average.

Cheers Dan. I hadn't actually noticed the car Dazren had linked to. Agree wholeheartedly that a fake badge is naff naff naff.
Keep us up to date with your RS experience. I'm toying with the idea of going that route myself, to supplement the TVRs, mainly for tracking not the road.
