Boxster buying advice

(to go along with my post in general gassing)
I've got about £20k to spend on a Boxster and am after some advice. I know very little about them. I'd really rather buy from a main dealer, but sadly they're way out of my price range... Can anyone reccomend a good specialist? I live on the Hants/Berks border (about ten minutes from Porsche HQ Reading!).

I sold my Lotus Elise privately which I think is the first time I've sold privately, and this went very well, and then bought privately. I would never now buy from a dealer. The Boxster S I bought was just as described, way less than a dealer would charge, and I've since had it serviced with no issues arising.
Of course the dealer will tell you about their wonderful warranty but I've had plenty of warranties which (1)only last a year, and (2) I've never claimed on anyway!
I would rather deal with an individual who loves their car, wants it to go to a good home, isn't making loads of commission off the sale, and can give you more info about the car.
I dread to think how much dealers have made out of me over the years, with low part exchanges, finance and higher prices on what I've bought. I would advise you to go for it, look the car over well, have an independent look at it if you want, and trust your instincts with the condition of the car, and the guy who is selling. Good luck!!

I called in briefly at a Porsche garage yesterday and had my first sit in a Boxster. Unfortunately, I couldn't reach the steering wheel unless my legs were uncomfortably bent double - but I do plan to go back when I have more time and investigate that one further!

I should think given time, you'll find a suitable seating position. There's a hell of a lot of development time goes into these things and it's important that the driver can be comfortable. Certainly it's worthwhile taking the time to get your seat position right.
you can still get a porsche warranty (£750) if you buy private, so long as it has either full porsche ervice history or a specialist SH. (stamped at right intervals).
take the car to porsche, who will inspect it for £150 and issue you with a warranty for £750 - best for peace of mind really.

My advice and provided you dont mind driving a LHD car dont buy something with out looking on this perfect example of boxster s. Why not come around to put the hard top on the car and have a coffee. I will let you know all that you need to know.

Does anybody know of a decent online buyer's guide spelling out exactly what to look for and where to look? I've found a couple of books (on Amazon and places) and PCGB seems to offer help if I join up for 60quid etc, but there doesn't really seem to be one online.
Quite surprises me because my first sports car was a funky old Spit 1500 and there are the world's supply people falling over themselves to tell you the pitfalls and what to look out for with them.
Now I know that a) Spits are going to have WAY more things that can and do go wrong and b) it's way easier to get at the oily bits of a Spitfire, but are people that buy Boxsters just supposed to have enough cash to fix whatever goes wrong if they inadvertantly buy a lemon or is Porscheworld a bit too 'elitist' to support new folks looking to help themselves?
I can't imagine either of those are true judging by the excellent PH community... Anybody got any suggestions?

If you're nervous, get one of the big guys to check it over, some even come with an inspection warranty, so if it turns out to be a dud, you can get your money back.

90% of me is saying keep and the sensible 10% of me is saying let it go. Only because soon I will have some debts to settle. (wedding)
The other reason is that I have not had a chance to take 'selling pics' of the car. Only have snap shots from when I was out the other week.
I would def buy private if i was you. I purchassed mine private and was lucky, at the time the same model boxster was at least £3,000 more from OPC/Specialist. It felt like I searched the world for the right one. At first I was aprehensive doing a private deal for such a large amount of cash, but most definately worth it in the end.
Like what has been said already, you can't beat buying from somebody who is enthusiastic about their cars and can give you a proper run down about it.
