Considering a 993 coupe or targa. Any feedback on the targa? Reliable, secure (any leak issues), a good buy or to be avoided?
Should these be similarly priced to the Coupes or more expensive/cheaper?

Finally what about re-sale values for the targas.
Cheers chaps?
Thanks,

No direct experience I'm afraid, but have heard they can have a few rattles / need the roof aligning carefully.

Certainly seem to be good value though, usually cheaper iirc.

Had a 993 Targa for 15mths. I think it's great having the glass roof and it fits my needs perfectly. I have had one or two squeaks and and the odd rattle but have eliminated them completely so I would let that put you off having one.

Personally don't believe it when people say they don't handle as well as a coupe due to it having the cabrio body. I believe this stems from the previous generation Targa's not being perceived as being as good as a Coupe. There were also fewer Targa's than Coupe's built.

I'd say from what I read, prices for 993 Targas may even be slightly higher than Coupes, however the problem with pricing is that the youngest Targas are now 7yrs old (last ones in 1998) and the oldest at 10yrs old, thus I'm sure you will find some Coupes more expensive than Targa's and vice versa.

Buy what suits your you, both are great cars.

Had mine for 20 months and I'm very pleased with it. No untoward noises, no leaks, looks better than the coupe (IMHO) because the glass roof looks so good. Values seem to be higher, all other things being equal, probably because they're out-numbered by about ten to one by coupes, so they're less common (and I don't mean that in a derogatory sense!). Look through the prices of 993 Targas in 911& PW and you'll find some pretty amazing prices for good, low mileage Targas.

But make sure you do a careful check of the roof and its operation, including the inner sunblind. If it's not working properly it could cost a few hundred to put right.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

One point to bear in mind is that spares for the Targa roof and sliding panel are becoming increasingly difficult to source , even through OPC's.
Just a thought.

Targa seemed great for me & wife - but too cramped in rear for the kid. Went for cab instead. Might seem a great comprimise - or might just be a bigger sunroof (on wobbly cab chassis) - try one & decide.

I was tempted by a 993 targa for a while but was put off by the 2 points that marx has so succintly - it isn't really much more than a big sunroof at the cost of a loss of rigidity and the extra weight of a cabrio chassis. Plumped for a coupé version finally with turbos.

Despite all that, the whole concept is streets ahead of the old removable chipboard panel targas of previous generations - if targa is your thing the 993 would be the one to have.

Best of luck.

Errr, magnesium alloy and aluminium I'll have you know Having said that, it would be nice to have to roof off at the touch of a button, whilst on the move.
