A newcomer to the world of Porsche here!

I am loking at a Macan S, having been a BMW fanboy for most of my life. With what's going on in the world, I am uncertain about what to expect from the buying process, particularly since I have typically leased in the past.

I would greatly appreciate any insights into the purchasing, including your perspective on lease versus PCP, facelift versus earlier models, dealer versus private sale, or waiting for the release of new model. While I acknowledge that the answers to these questions depend on my individual circumstances, any information of what to aim for would be greatly appreciated.

Also service costs for the Macan S? Yes I know "It's a porsche" and having owned several BMW M cars in the past, I am not trying to run it on mini money. Just want to know what to expect, and when.

Finally, if I was to say £6,000 down and approximately £550-£600 per month, would that get me close to a 2020 model?

PS: I have searched for relevant threads on this topic, but given the nature of the world, they date pretty damn quickly!

Go to you local OPC and talk to them. They are very helpful.

No idea re PCP etc I'm afraid, but Porsche carefully evolve and refine their products over time. So broadly, the current Gen3 models are better than Gen2, which are better than Gen1

Some elements such as exterior looks and interior touchscreen interface are a bit subjective though

Your budget will determine which generation of S you can afford. There's also the consideration of going back a generation and getting a higher spec model eg buying a Gen 2 GTS or Turbo instead of a Gen 3 S

There's a UK Macan specific forum elsewhere as well, so maybe worth visiting that

Yes, the 3 came out late 2021.

PCP is very expensive currently. 10.9% interest rate so if you can afford cash payment, that would be your best option e.g. I picked up my Macan T in early March and a four year PCP was going to cost £20k interest over 4 years and that i spite of a large affront payment from my previous Macan part ex. So I paid cash !

I purchased a new Macan in Dec and regarding finance went for a HP with a large deposit so that I could chew the depreciation faster and start paying it off mid term. That said as the finance is so high I would certainly look at other finance products and be clued up on them before buying via VWFS (who manage Porsche FS) as their rates are over 10%. I was thinking of refinancing too but those rates are similar to what I am paying so def do the numbers before negotiating. When I mentioned I'd finance elsewhere they gave me another £2k towards my PX..

Conversely and slightly off topic BMW are still charging 5-6%, so money does not have to cost THAT much but maybe they have been bitten more?

We honestly couldn't tell much difference between the generations we've had. A lot of the tech (rain/light sensor, radar, flap release etc.) is actually a generation behind VW cars (I've worked as a supplier to them).

Great vehicles but the oldest ones aren't radically different to the current generation if you fancy saving some cash.

YMMV.

I financed mine through asset finance as it was far cheaper than the PCP rates - this was early last year so the savings are probably even bigger now. It's a HP with balloon, which means you're on the hook for the balloon element and it isn't a guarantee of future value, just the way the loan is structured. I put in a reasonable deposit to keep the overall interest cost low (25% of the value) so it worked out ok.

I went for a GTS, they're not really depreciating due to availability (this will change, they're not a limited model) and mine has held on to most of its value over the first year. As with all Porsche's the options are expensive and almost everything is an option, including a lot of things that should be standard on an expensive car. As standard, the dashboard, doorcards etc are plastic and the seats are only partial leather, along with lots of other things you'd expect it to have being absent. Even the GTS doesn't come with these things as standard, so a £15-20k options spend isn't unreasonable. If you go second hand, someone will have taken a bit of this hit, but all the latest Gen 3 cars still seem to be trading near list price.

I have no idea on servicing costs, but I expect it to be expensive. I had an oil change when my car turned 1 as I'm anal and don't believe in 2 year intervals, that was £437 at the OPC if that helps.

Perfect. Thanks.
Do you mind me asking who you used for asset finance? Feel free to PM if you don't want to share.
