Hi guys

Currently running a Boxster S and enjoying every moment...however i'm investing in a company and therefore may look to sell the boxster and buy a 'classic' 911 to free up some cash.

I've been looking at the 1990-1992 911 model either as a coupe or cabriolet in the sub £15k category.

Does anyone have experience of keeping one of these on the driveway and using it as an everyday car? Is the hood (assuming its in good condition) ok to be kept on the driveway?

I read that the early 964 had a few things changed in the later models but overall if you don't pay chump change they are pretty good cars...also strangely my insurance company quotes a cheaper price for the 911 than the boxster.

Anyway would appreciate any advice on this...before my head gets sore and i go and buy the sensible BMW 330D! :)) Either that or an older Audi S4.

Cheers

Richard

A 964 cab in the sub 15k catogory might be pushing it a bit, not sure you'll get anything decent for much under.Though I'd guess a few exist. Buy on condition rather than age although if you can find a late model good condition 964 all the better as they came with the lighter plastic intake manifold and useful detail improvements.

I have had a 964 for the last year or so, my first 911 by the way. I wanted to get a 993, but couldn't justify the extra 10K or so for a decent one. I ended up buying a 1990 C2 coupe and so far I have been very pleased. I would buy on condition not year and get a pre-purchase inspection carried out. There are lots of horror stories about these cars but generally they are reliable and great fun to drive - look forward to taking it out every time. They are getting long in the tooth now and some have had top-end rebuilds, but this is sometimes due to worries over oil leaks. A good place for lots more info is www.rennlist.com and check out the 964 section. Servicing works out at about £400-500pa depending on who does it and what is required. My advice is to have a look around, drive a few to see if they are what you want.
