OK, finally got my 997S, or at least to be delivered on Friday.

The insurance quotes are just sick :
Performance Marque £5.000
Porsche £4.400
Adrian Flux £4.283 with £875 excess!!!

These are the 3 best so far...

For the record, 32 years' old, 2 years NCB (lived in Europe before then), 3 points for red lights 05-05, 1 accident my fault £1.000 in 01-03 (2 more not my fault over 5 years), Chelsea parking. I cannot be that much of a disaster to ensure?

Any assistance much apreciated.

Forgot to say LHD being imported from Germany but to have UK number plates if that makes any difference

didn't you check insurance before buying the car??

Looks like age, LHD, car over 50k, some claims are causing your problem.

Have you done a search for insurance in this forum? There was a recent thread about where people had got their insurance quotes from.

I use Asset Trust - 01285 841 555 - and they are good, but mine is: garaged, cheaper, slower, older (both me and the car ) and on a limited mileage classic policy.

Just FYI I pay about a tenth of your quotes for the 944 (current) and will pay about an eighth for the 993 (next).

I'm afraid the high cost comes from it being LHD import. Not much more
I can say to help because I would have suggested Adrian Flux but try Tesco? They were excellent untill this year when they started getting funny about prices?!

Blimey.

Just for comparision I pay about £1050 for a 2003 996tt. Driveway in Sussex 35yrs.
1 Claim recently for a total loss of a 996tt with Norwich union. Protected NClaims.

Good luck. Have you tried the big ins boys?

Thanks for all the quick replies. Regarding looking at insurance prior to purchashing the car, I am paying £1000 on my 1 year old X5, there was no reason to suspect that a 997S would cost over 4 times as much!

Regarding the "big boys", high value seems to trip them over.

And regarding looking back at previous threads, the search feature appears disabled or broken down when I click on it unfortunately.

The only good thing is that Porsche offers 2 days "free" tracking days.

Trying A Plan as we speak, they are calling me back.

You should call Neil Adams on 73775850. They provided an excellent quote for me on my recently sold 911. The key for Neil is do you use it for commuting? If not he could save you a few ££££'s

OK, Direct Line offered £2.340 which I took, to compare that with Raven Flyer, 2 years' NCB, TS50, 1 accident against me £1000, LHD

At the end of the day, steep, but not extortionate. Now all I need is to find an insurance for track days, but this is another story...

You should get a policy which covers track days. You have a 2 week cooling off on the policy you bought, so try the following :

Can recommend www.pw-f.co.uk/index_pw.htm as the MD Jeremy Pace is also a porker owner and got me my 2nd best quote including trackday cover and unlimited mileage.

Oh another very good company is Bickley insurance. Ask for Chris 0208 773 8123. Limited amount of trackdays you can do though.

Try AON, I went with them in the end, but on a classic policy. 01483 706 000.

Try A Manning. 01491 587 759

All of the above will cover trackdays, but make sure you specify it at the start of the conversation!

Good luck. N.B. If you don't get track cover on your main policy you can look forward to premiums of 350-450 quid per track day for one off cover.
