911 vs. Amv8 evo/autocar SPOILER
Discussion
two tests now put the 911 ahead of the new aston.
But its pretty close on the road..they are saying..this being the best handling aston ever. On the track the 911 is significantly better.
Im sure it will take sales away from Porsche, and in a way I hope it does , because the Aston is bound to attract those after the prestige and image, leaving the 911 to the more serious driver.
No guessing top gear will say the aston is far far better, and who's betting they'll engineer it to be quicker round the track too.

I haven't seen either of the articles.
I guess the Aston will take some sales from Porsche. However, Aston production is measured in thousands per year, as opposed to tens of thousands per year for Porsche. I can't remember the exact figures but even if all the Astons are purchased at the expense of Porsches it will not influence the Porsche sales figures unduly.

Problem is that the Porsche maybe 20% better in dynamics but the AM is 100% better in the looks dept.
The Aston is also 15k more, and whilst the looks are good, I'm beginning to get bored of the Aston family look. They've overdone it imho with so many models looking identical.

have to agree.
I wasnt bowled over by the looks from the photos in Evo. Its a pretty car, and the original press photos looked amazing, but the action shots werent quite that impressive....
I have not read the articles.
I drove the DB9 and as I have said on this forum before the best part of the test drive was going home in my 996TT. Build on the Aston was DREADFULL, simply astonishingly poor for such an expensive car. The bamboo wood veneer in my demonstrator was peeling off, the paint already scratched, the air vets looked like rice paper and the cabin was cramped. It rode well but felt woolly, It looked like men who leave the gym and desperate to impress with muscle mass but have no aerobic fitness.
I love the fact the Astons are the way they are at the moment – it puts Porsche values into relief…

fair enough.. im sure it is a great drivers car...but im hoping that most of the buyers who move away from porsche are the sort of people who dont do track days and just drive the car for its image and pose value.
I cant imagine seeing amv8s outmumbering porsches at RMA days fo quite a while, but Ill bet there will be plenty parked around Ken/chelsea soon.

To be fair, I'm one of the apparent minority who thinks the facelift 996s look better than 997s too. I just love the high tech look of the lights and find the 997 a real step backwards.
Add another here to the minority.
Me too, but only the facelift.
I can only assume that you don't like the increase in power, increase in speed, infinitely better interior, and hugely improved rear end grip.
Also your eyes must be painted on.

Easy! You don't need to get personal!
Anyway the only one of your points that I would agree on versus my car is the interior quality - I could have purchased a 997S for similar money.

I prefer the 996 face lift to the 997. As for grip & power, there's always the mighty TT! I've yet to find a 997 to beat mine with 525bhp.

Dan,
You don't agree that the 997 has more power than the facelift 996
